Why does main.js not load?
#1
I just updated Tor to 13.0.6 and as soon as it restarted, I found myself unable to search TPB. I'm getting this message:

Enable JS in your browser! You may be blocking important javascript components, check that main.js is loaded or the webpage won't work.

I've checked and Javascript is enabled. However, when I do CTRL-SHIFT-I, the portion of the window created for the diagnostics is completely blank so I have no way to see if main.js or anything else is loaded.

Why did the Tor update break what had been working very well for a very long time and how do I get TPB working again?

13.0.6 Tor works fine.

Are you unable to access TPB or search TPB ?

Which URL are you using ?

Search the forum for answers.
Using anti-virus ? whitelist apibay.org if required.
Try re-installing Tor browser.

I'm glad to hear that 13.0.6 works fine for others. I only mentioned it because my problem seemed to coincide exactly with upgrading to 13.0.6. If it works fine for others, then it implies that I've messed myself up but I'm at a loss to think of anything I've done to cause the problem.

I am able to get to https://thepiratebay.org without difficulty but I should mention that the version I am seeing doesn't have the TPB logo horizontally centered as it usually is.

When I enter my search, it looks like it's starting to work but when I get the results page, it has the message I cited previously and several ads encouraging me to Hide my IP or Get a VPN but nothing else.

I've added the following entries to my Avast whitelist (which was previously empty):
http://apibay.org
https://apibay.org
https://thepiratebay.org

Unfortunately, this hasn't solved the problem. I reloaded the index.html page via CTRL-R and tried my search again but got exactly the same result.

I viewed the source of https://thepiratebay.org/index.html and noticed that it wants to load main.js via this line:
<script src="https://thepiratebay.org/static/main.js"></script>

When I click on that line, it takes me to a page that show me the contents of main.js, which implies that it *is* loaded (or at least accessible).

I will try re-installing Tor next and post back here with the results.

Re-installing TOR finally made TPB work normally. I don't get why any of this happened but thanks for helping me out of the ditch!

Glad to hear that you got it working again.

Thanks for writing a clear problem report.

Remember to undo any unnecessary changes you made to your system.

If you wish, you can chose how to install updates.
Settings -> Tor Browser Updates - check but let me choose
