Why Mega? EDIT: And where else?

OK, thanks for the explanations, now I have new question.

Back in the day direct download sites used to throttle free download speeds to get people to pay for "premium" speeds, and they used to delete files that weren't downloaded after a month. Mega doesn't appear to do that.

Are there any other sites like Mega?  Even small ones. If Mega were closed down tomorrow where would upload to next? It's always a good idea to have a backup plan.

I like your thought Sid. I find https://wetransfer.com/ a good site. The only downside is files must be 2GB or smaller, but it is workable as you can split the file up into rar packs.

My browser of choice is Firefox, but it limits the free Mega account to 2gb. However, if you use Chrome there is no limit and the 2gb PLUS files download just fine

Use a VPN. I use PIA (50+ different servers in multiple countries to choose from), but I can't say if there are any trustworthy free ones.

I'm capped on chrome too. Somewhere around 5-6 gb per 6 hours.

I can't afford to anger my ISP, so I only use torrents with my VPN. I don't have a seedbox, so my ability to seed is limited. I don't want to leave my PC on all the time either. I like mega because the only real limitation is how much you can download in a day.

As others have mentioned, use a VPN. Whenever my Mega limit is reached I just change servers and continue the DL. No fuss no muss and some sense of anonymity. Within limits though.
