Which VPN Providers Take Anonymity Seriously?
#51
PIA has no speed issues, but I lost trust with them.

ShadeYouVPN has both speed and connection issues.

CryptoStorm has good speeds, but some of their IP's are banned on various sites.

These are my personal gathers when using each of these services.

PIA
Wants no personal info other than payment method, allows various payment methods. No speed issues and has an informative community integrated into their knowledge base. They have an easy to use custom app.
Their OpenVPN configs were outdated and did not contain --block-outside-dns to prevent DNS Leaks.

CryptoStorm
Desires no personal information other than payment method. Gives out custom tokens as usernames to customers and do not require a password. Official cryptostorm developers frequent the forums to help users and allow their community to test new methods. They also maintain a simple easy to use app, but also encourage advanced users to use OpenVPN GUI for automation.
Their OpenVPN configs are updated, however many IP's are blocked by various websites and services.

ShadeYouVPN
Requires very little personal information. Has customer support information available in their minimal knowledge base and respond fairly quickly to emails and feedback. They are also regularly expanding their network.
Their OpenVPN configs are outdated and do not include --block-outside-dns to prevent DNS leaks. Email responses are machine translated. I also had a lot of connection and speed issues. The connection and speed issues seem to have been resolved.

IPVanish
They collect a lot of information about you that their service is supposed to prevent others from knowing. Has a lot of servers and locations available.
They would not accept either masked cards or prepaid credit cards.

LiquidVPN
(Same as IPVanish)

TotalVPN
Requires no personal information. Easy to use app (but does not prevent DNS Leaks). They have a wide range of servers to choose from for normal web traffic (not p2p, see below). They accept masked cards and prepaid credit cards. Can use Netflix and Hulu without problems. They offer different connection protocols.
OpenVPN configs are out-dated, do not include all of their servers and do not include --block-outside-dns to prevent DNS Leaks. They restrict p2p traffic to certain servers in one region (The Netherlands). Customer support took 3 days to respond to questions by email.
They restrict p2p traffic to ~150 kbps per torrent.

I went with PIA. And my torrent is using their socks5 proxy. While I don't feel completely safe I do feel somewhat better... The internet these days really isn't safe for anyone.

Private Internet Access
https://www.privateinternetaccess.com

Suggestion: I went to the 'chat' part and had a long discussion with a site helper... got instructions on exactly how to set my bittorrent settings AND MOST IMPORTANTLY, which countries of the long list were the safest. NOTE: only 5 of the list were completely safe.

One last note: I'm a very old schooler at this. Recall back in the 90s when you had to keep you hand on the mouse to watch something you could barely see in the first place. LOL. Be careful no matter what you do using a VPN. I figure pretty soon we are all going to have to go back underground like we used to. I'm sure there are a few out there that know the difference between above ground (websites) and underground(bouncing directly off a network of pcs/servers linked together by all of us). Government is so crazy stupid... if we go back undersground, they can't see what we are doing.

I use PIA and I've had my IP's banned on some sites too. It's a bummer but I've stayed with them... I finally stopped getting ISP 'warnings'.

No VPN is safe if you're looking for "serious" anonymity. "Serious" anonymity doesn't exist anywhere on the Internet.

But most all VPN's, even free ones, are "safe" when it comes to protecting your IP address from harvesters, which is all you really want. Particularly if you choose one outside the legal jurisdiction in which you reside.
