Someone within the FB organization dicked up their routing records really good so now the rest of the internet doesn't know where to send their traffic.

I'm kind of hoping that it's some sort of catastrophic event that destroys FB forever.

FB fall down and go BOOM!

*EVIL LAUGHTER*

And they claim it's not a cyber attack, although their internal systems are down, too.

*SNICKER*

I move that every October 4 from henceforth be known as International Schadenfreude Day!

HUZZAH!!*

That would be a very fitting end. I doubt we will be so lucky.

It's probably just some kind of way to manipulate the stock market and make more money.

Kind of like Facebook crashes so the stock does the same.  Some buys the stock when it's cheap and then the site goes back online and the stock become expensive again.

The money lost on advertising would probably offset any shady gains.

Really, this was just an accident caused by some dude screwing up their data center's routing tables. He's probably looking for a new job now.

Routing protocols and domain name resolution are two boring and archaic bits of the internet that can really ruin your day if you make just one typo.
