WebTorrent instead of BitX?
#1
I'm wondering if we can have links to streaming of torrents point to WebTorrent instead of BitX?

BitX seems to only for Windows and WebTorrent is platform agnostic and works directly from the web browser. I like the idea of watching a video right away sometimes and not have to download an EXE.

It is my understanding that WebTorrents can also work with regular torrent clients now.

Some recent court cases in the EU have classified streaming as different from downloading which makes liability for the end user less? I'm not a lawyer, but it sounded like to me streaming sounded like there is legal problem with than downloading.

Some things to consider...

One word. Two completely different meanings.

"Streaming" in the sense of what you see (or might see) on TPB is the playing as it is downloaded of content served by a group of peers.

"Streaming" in the sense of the court cases you are referring to is the playing as it is downloaded of content served by a central server. It is safer for downloaders (as they do no uploading) but it is considerably more risky for the content hosting provider. [Note that TPB is not a content hosting provider. It never has been and it never will be.]

As for the particular peer-to-peer streaming technology TPB supports, nobody here gives a fuck as the concept is fundamentally unsound. The less well it works the better as far as we're concerned.
