Could we get a forum that only lists new releases, so we dont have to request new release riffs?
The Admin would make a post with the new release title and who ever has it posts it.
Discuss....

At heart, it's a sound idea. I'd even go so far as to say it's a good idea.
But this is a community. It's not a service you are paying for.
Nobody is going to commit to starting new threads for you. You, individually or as a group, are free to start threads for new releases as/when they are announced/released. You don't need a new forum for that, it's what the Requests forum is for.

if we are going on how we've done it in the past, when you see a new release come out you just start a regular thread about it (with date it came out would be great) with the description they give on it & usually someone will come and give the download link. It doesn't need to be hidden away in the requests forum.

Thats what I'm thinking. Make a "New Release" forum and and whoever puts the title of the new release the download goes there.

I don't see how that is any different from the existing Requests forum.
The fly in the ointment (and the reason you're not satisfied with the existing structure; and the reason changing the structure won't achieve what you think it will achieve) is that you guys can already create one thread per release, with sensible thread titles--but you mostly fail (or deliberately choose not) to do so.
This isn't a business or a vanity project--nobody here is going to do it for you. Nor are we going to slap around other members just because they don't post the way you think they should. But nobody is stopping you from stepping up. This is a community-driven site. Agree a thread naming/opening post standard between yourselves and start creating threads (in the Requests forum) each time a new release comes out. If it takes off; and if you keep at it; and if there proves to be a significant difference between your threads and the other request threads then we will consider a new forum (or merging the existing forum back into the main forum).

I think the difference is organization. You could in theory have a sub forum for new releases in which upon sorting would give you releases in order. Unlike now, it might be in the main thread it might be in the requests, if someone requested it. The main thread for each new release with the idea that if a link goes dead the new link could be posted in the same thread if it were requested making it easier to find the most current live link.

That is a valid point.
But the reality is that such a system would begin to break down the very first time you (as a group) failed to create a thread about a new release and someone created another thread before you got around to it (if you ever did). And it would get worse and worse over time as you missed more and more new releases.
And there is no reason you can't do that in the existing forum. OK, a few other threads will intersperse yours but it's not like there are pages and pages of threads created every day. The few extras that are created could be easily skipped if you had established a distinctive labeling scheme (like perhaps prefixing the thread title with "NEW", or even better the release date in yyyymmdd form--which would have the benefit of making the forum sortable by title regardless of whether you succeeded in creating the release thread on the day of release or not, and which would automatically sort out the other threads which wouldn't have numeric first characters).

That's why I said we would consider merging the two existing forums. Rather than adding to the problem by creating another. I say adding to the problem because even with a new dedicated forum you would not be able to stop people creating threads which "belong" there in the other forums, or creating threads there which belong in the other forums. Structure is not magic. It won't solve the problems you are having. Only discipline on the part of the community of thread creators will do that.

That's how things work now.
Except where members fail/choose not to search before creating new threads when threads for a given release already exist. But when we see such duplicates (or when someone reports them, by clicking on the Report button at the bottom right of the first post) we merge them.

I totally agree with Sid. If you know how to read and type, and as a fan of Rifftrax you would (or should) be aware of new releases, then a simple search of the forum would bring up the release no matter where it's been posted. Why complicate things? I've never had a problem with finding new, or any previous, releases by simply using a few keystrokes entered into the search box, either through posts or titles. As the ancient saying goes: why fix something if it ain't broken! It may be a good idea in thought to separate new releases but I think, over time, it would just complicate the current system and fail in the long run.

fyi, it's not obvious but the search box at the top of Requests forum searches both the Requests AND the main RiffTrax forums (because when people want something it may have already been requested, or already been released).
