Hi,

I've been following a DISM upgrade as per this guide: http://community.spiceworks.com/how_to/7...tion-media

I haven't burned a DVD yet because I don't know what to burn. Does DISM make changes to the extracted Windows 7 files that I specified in its application (i.e. C:\Win7)?

While I'm at it, I think it would be beneficial for others to post WAIK-related questions here so that when someone wants to find an answer, they can see here for some.

You'll need to be more specific on what your doing/done RX. WAIK is a collection of tools.

I've been following on that URL that teaches step-by-step on how to make an image to burn a DVD for Windows 7 Ultimate that is updated.

DISM works for installing updates that are downloaded using Windows Update Downloader, or so it seems, but I'm not sure what to burn or make an ISO out of. So far, I can only think of one: the extracted files from the originally-downloaded ISO that was referred to for the install.wim that was used for mount purposes, also by DISM.

Every step works, it's just that I am unclear on what to burn afterwards.

You need to now use imagex to extract and compress the install.wim. Then drop the newly updated/modified install.wim into the sources folder of your Win 7 disk and overwrite the original.

That's the .iso that you'll be burning to disk.

Note that the index (version of windows) is the only one that will carry over your updates/modifications. E.g., if you worked with Ultimate, only Ultimate carries the modifications

Now, once I'm done with WAIK, how should I add the unattended settings that RT7Lite can do? I'm talking about automating the serial key?

You'll need to create an autounattend.xml file using Windows System Image Manager from within WAIK. You could use rt7Lite but personally, i wouldn't.

Creating these .xml answer files takes a lot of RTFM. Here's a neat little site which will create a very basic autounattend.xml file for you to get you started:

Just a few more questions for now:
1. Do I put the answer file to a root directory of the Windows 7 folder that I extracted, or where I specified where the folder would be at the site's location textbox?
2. Does the pre-inputted CD-key work, or do I type my own?

1. Autounattend goes at the root of the .iso/usb.
2. Key is inserted into the Autounattend.xml.
