That is an over-generalization.

Most exposures with most VPN's come from people either misconfiguring them or failing to use them religiously.

Paid VPN's do tend to come with better instructions, which helps with the former; but nothing can help with the latter. And the tendency is not universal--some paid VPN's don't explain things as well as they should, and some free VPN's do a good job.

If you're referring to the chances of the VPN ratting/selling you out; that is a risk with any of them. But for the purposes of simple filesharing, it's not a great risk.



[For the purpose of uploading .torrent files to TPB, and posting comment, we do direct people towards paid VPN's. That's not a risk issue though, it's because free anonymity services are more frequently abused by spammers; which means their IP addresses are more frequently banned; which means people are more likely to experience problems uploading/commenting when using them.]
