No new magic tracking.

I double checked and it's not from my ISP.  It came from copyrightviolations [at] hbo [dot] com.

And you are quite sure that they are the ones who addressed it to you, and it was not forwarded to you from your ISP, or your VPN provider?

It came direct.   I'm not seeing anything from my ISP.... forwarded or otherwise.

This is why I'm confused about the entire situation.

That is a bit odd. Unfortunately without seeing the message itself including the headers, I can't offer much more.

To the best of my knowledge I've done everything right.

Having your firewall "running" is meaningless unless you have configured it to stop traffic thru your torrent client when your VPN disconnects.

If you got the notice thru email, it was forwarded by your ISP.  How else is HBO going to associate your IP address with you and your email address?

I live in the US NE FL. and Comcast is the best ISP in my area I have used at least 5 different VPN services over the past 6 years and I never heard of such a notice, I got probably 50 or so notices in the past 10 years but that was when I was just grabbing a movie to look at without the VPN enabled, I have a Comcast business account since 2007, the way I read the law these notices have to come from the ISP that's the way the technology works.
