VLC's support for protected Blu Ray discs
#1
Hey guys,

Not really going to get Blu Ray right now, but I want to know if the libraries that VLC uses currently can decrypt protected Blu Ray discs.

Again, I'm just being curious.

On Windows?

EDIT: Assuming your on Windows, then yeah, you can play protected/encrypted Blu Ray discs. You'll just have to download and install two libraries

1: https://www.videolan.org/developers/libaacs.html
2: https://www.videolan.org/developers/libbdplus.html

Natively VLC can't play Blu Rays.

What about GNU/Linux?

If yes, would that true under the condition that you download and install libaacs and libbplus?

Yeah, type in these commands:

sudo apt-get install vlc libaacs0 libbluray-bdj libbluray1

These 2 command create a hidden directory and download an aacs keys file for VLC:

mkdir -p ~/.config/aacs/

cd ~/.config/aacs/ && wget http://vlc-bluray.whoknowsmy.name/files/KEYDB.cfg

and VLC will play Blu-Rays.
