Tor browser and NordVPN non-problem?
#1
Whenever I'm using NordVPN and open their web site with the TOR browser I get an "unprotected" red warning. Pretty sure it's not so, all other browsers show the usual green "protected". Just to make sure, is there some odd interplay that causes it? Can someone explain it in fairly simple terms? I guessing it has to do with how NordVPN evaluates the connection.

Use a VPN with your torrent client and with a regular browser.

When using tor browser, turn the VPN off.

This means currently you are not successfully connected to our servers.

I think you were using malicious tor exit node. Usually, when you see such warnings you are under http but not HTTPS protocol. Read about this

Highly unlikely.

Many VPN providers perform a simple test to check if you are visiting from one of their servers. If you are using tor, regardless of whether or not you are also using a VPN (which you shouldn't be, if you are using tor), you are not going to be connecting directly from one of their servers.

This exactly. Using Tor with a VPN is redundant at best, and harmful at worst. Just use Tor Browser (preferably without a VPN) to copy the magnet link, and use your VPN with your bittorrent client

Is it safer to just use tor without a Vpn?

Not safer, exactly. It's just that using a VPN won't make anything better, so at best it will be totally redundant. Matt Traudt has a pretty good blog post on the topic - https://matt.traudt.xyz/posts/you-want-t...FBCJV.html. You might also want to read https://matt.traudt.xyz/posts/about-to-u...EFK1m.html.
