Thanks. If you watch closely you can almost see the exact moment John Frankenheimer decides he doesn't give a fuck and just wants to finish the movie quickly as possible.

i got the impression it was a clusterfuck from val's documentary.
I'm always amazed any film comes out well. it seems like it would be challenging under good circumstances.

There's a point where The Island of Dr. Moreau stops being bizarre and just devolves into a series of listlessly directed action sequences that always depresses me because Dr. Moreau very likely would have been great if the producers hadn't freaked out when they saw Richard Stanley's dailies.  John Frankenheimer just wanted to finish the movie quickly and collect his paycheck.  He ended up discarding a lot of Richard Stanley's script when he killed off Brando and Kilmer early so he didn't have to deal with either of them and padded out the third act with lazy action sequences.  The third act when Dr. Moreau completely circles the drain is entirely on Frankenheimer.
