So TSB is failing as the new KAT?
#1
I've watched the DazScramble since KAT went tits up, when loyal Kattens were pitching DMND against TPB and wondering where the torrents would lie. In the end the DMND kind of ran out of steam and now TPB seems be be lagging and clogged with hoaxers.

These days most new stuff now seems to get posted to either the Zone or Sky – seemingly by KAT regulars. Sometimes these posts wind their way back to TPB, but more often they don't.

Has the era of the Daztorrent come to an end?

I would say that it hasn't. The community took a big blow when KAT fell and it's going to take some time for it to find its feet and rebuild. We just have to persevere and keep plodding one foot in front of the other.

Rome wasn't built in a day, and nor was the KAT community. The TPB Daz community is going to take some time too but at least we have our own little corner of TPB to call our own.

Most of the stuff from Skyback is being uploaded on zonegfx and dazposer.net. And skyback usually has decent links. I use skyback for new stuff generally , and zone for stuff skyback missed out on.

I think Zone is pretty much the reason why people dont use torrents anymore. Most of the torrents are instantly shared on zone for the site points, which later gets shared on skyback and dazposer eventually

Zone's download links are the most reliable because of no waiting period and really high speeds (mega.nz links). It also feels more KAT-like because of image, description and product links.

Thats my take on the situation.

PS : Is it easy to upload on skyback? Like anyone can? I think language is stopping most people from doing so, if anyone can post.

I don't see the point in re-posting a file as a torrent when it is already on like 5 other sites.

As for skyback it is really easy to post on and even easier if you use google chrome you can have it auto translate the pages for you.

The problem with many of those sites is that they don't always have the "latest", unless those are hidden behind a pay-wall.I've gone to Skyback and TopGFX both, for example, and under the "latest" posts have only seen items that have been shared here, or had been previously shared before KAT died. Some items are old, too, old Rendo stuff for example. As for reposting as a torrent, well, not everyone believes in paying for stolen merchandise, which is what it amounts to. Yes, there are SOME advantages, such as direct download links...BUT, as I found out after donating to become a VIP member of SilentGround, a few years back...those links won't always be high-speed, or ad-free, or spam-free. Many screw you with limits, timers, and if there's an error you get stuck behind a "2 hour time limit between downloads" that lasts at least 6-8 hours (I'm assuming, because I quit going back after the first 4 hours...Vapid...err,RAPIDgator is known for this crap, for example).

Torrents are shared, plain and simple. If nobody reposts those files as torrents, what happens when your pay-site goes down, or ups their fee, or like SilentGround, changes management, changes hosts, has zero "special" content for VIP's, and then expects you to become a "premium" member on top of that? You share your files on an easy system anyone can use, without worrying about file hosts and costs, spam, etc., and even when websites are taken down (like KAT was), you STILL have many of those files out floating around. ALWAYS have a back-up, a contingency plan, and always ASSUME that whatever your method is will NOT last forever.

Think about it. Hell, why bother with even direct download sites, when all you need is a pass-coded P2P client or online storage, and only share those within a small select group of people? Oh wait...that was done with: FTP, WinMX, Kaazaa, Limewire, Bearshare, and a few others that no longer exist or have become so polluted as to be worthless (like Newsgroups have been as well).

The reason behind torrenting those files is to keep them in circulation for as many people as possible for as long as possible, and so that others will do the same and share something you may need yourself one day, or re-share something more easily that has been out of circulation for a while.

Most of your problems listed are solved by getting a download manager. I use jdownloader 2 but I agree the wait times suck.

If everyone who complains about the lack of DAZ3D/Poser torrents were to put up a few of their own, there would be plenty to choose from. Trolling through page after page of direct download sites (generating ad revenue for them), putting up with all the crap that they try to slip past your security, and waiting, waiting, waiting for one to finish so that you can start another one... If they were put into torrent form, we would all save a lot of time, collectively.

Torrents are always free and unrestricted (on open sites), can be queued up for when you're ready, and never expire, even if the host site disappears, unless interest fades and they are abandoned by all seeders. As has been mentioned several times, the KAT DAZ3D/Poser torrents are still out there, thousands of them, mostly seeded, waiting to pick up where they left off. Problem is, if you got the stuff there in the first place, you would have little desire to resurrect it, but think of the next generation of users who have nothing but the couple hundred that have appeared (or reappeared) here. And they will all eventually die off, because seeders will lose interest if no one comes calling, unless they're some automated system that somehow stays alive for years.

Sure, it takes a little time to make a decently formed torrent with a well-defined structure, a description and image (or link), but that never stopped anyone before. If users are getting too lazy, ignorant, or timid to make the effort, then, well, yeah, things are not looking good. I hear a lot of complaints that "it's not the same" as KAT. Well, get over it. Nothing will be the same no matter where you go. With a minimum of preparation and organization, anyone can do it easily, and do it on multiple sites using the same torrent, the same description, the same image links. I use a text editor to write up the description (well, copy it), add an image link, add a vendor location and save it. Every upload process is basically the same. Select torrent, add torrent name, select category, add description (i.e., copy/paste). You can use the same f*ing text on Demonoid, for example, just add the IMG tags around the image link and you're done. Not that much different, and takes another 5 minutes or less. Plus, you only need to seed it once globally, not once per site, and opens to a much larger audience.

Torrents have no wait times, no quotas, no hassles. Sure, there are a lot of fake sites and fake torrents that will give you no end of trouble, but this isn't one of them, and neither is Demonoid. Fakes are easily recognized here, and quickly flagged for garbage disposal, so there is no excuse for complaining about their proliferation. If you aren't sure, just wait a day or two and see what sticks. No one is so desperate for content that they can't live another minute without it. If your life depends on it so much, shut up and go buy it.

If someone takes a torrent's contents and adds it to their collection on a direct download site where members need points to get the download, who's the bigger fool? It is right here, no strings attached.

I´ve been on the internet since the first days and downloading stuff for almost as long. If I have learned anything it´s that everything is available eventually.

That being said, when I first started using Kat for Daz suff I was so relieved I didn´t have to mess around with waiting times, max download limits and paywalls anymore.
So it´s heartbraking to see that we seem to go back to pre-kat days now.

Yes, I could do stuff myself, but I dont have access to exclusive stuff anymore and I can´t buy stuff at the moment.

So, to reiterate my standpoint I sure hope we can get back to a thriving torrent based climate again. I am not quite sure why demonoid didn´t take of after Kat?! It was the best daz site back in the day and I can´t really see why it couldn´t be that again.

But, yeah I don´t contribute right now, so I can´t excpect to get a vote and as I stated in the beginning; everything gets available sooner or later.

Edit: oh, and I have never really understood this whole complaining about stuff being reposted on other sites. I mean...you upload it without authorisation from the vendor/creator so why do you get to complain when someone does that to you? Information wants to be free!

Edit2: Lol, seems demonoid is down right now though...at least I cant get in.

It is clear that some people tried to rekindle the Katdaz-poser torrenting spirit here on TPB (in september). It seems the effort was not followed by new uploaders. There may be several reasons for this, uploading/announcing on TPB is difficult as it is banned in several countries (and as I mentioned elsewhere it can become nightmarish through TOR), and some direct download sites are becoming better (more newer and really FREE stuff, and people may be tempted to hoard points there) but I agree with Thunder, torrents should remain the best way to exchange. It is also possible that the restructuring of this forum with forced separations between requests, chat and announcements had taken its toll, eventually diluting the community (I know this point will attract fire...). There are rumors of a possible KAT restart but I would not bank on it in the near future, their Daz forum seems slowly dying, that was inevitable but it served well as a meeting point after the Bomb... So the real way to get results is to upload (I mean US) and seed NEW STUFF, this will attract a larger audience which could renounce pay and point sites. Is a sort of pledge system a solution ? But then it is clear it requires an easy/secure way to upload. If there are only solitary efforts, it will not work and the most courageous will get burned and go elsewhere. We (of course inclusive) cannot complain if we are not ready for a collective effort. But are we ?
