Self-contained TV mini-series recommendations
#1
Looking for recommendations for any critically acclaimed TV mini-series that is limited and self-contained, by which I mean it doesn't drag endlessly on for multiple seasons, at which point I just wish all the characters (and their writers) would perish violently in a Wagnerian apocalypse.  I have zero patience for series that contain lots of filler or meaningless dialogue and scenes only to stretch things out.

I don't watch much TV but examples of series that I've enjoyed are Fargo, the first season of True Detective, and more recently Big Little Lies -- stuff that has some claim to artistic merit and integrity.  It doesn't have to be in English; I just can't think of a foreign one at the moment.

WARNING: Posters who recommend any series that does not meet the standard described above will be instantly and permanently banned.  Smile

have you tried The Alienist. I know it was just renewed but the first season was a fully contained story.

Geez...Mini-Series??? not very familiar... Band of Brothers maybe?

You probably already seen Roots... Another one I can think of was one called John Adams... I enjoyed it, but I'm a Paul Giamanti fan... Seen that a long time ago...

I'd say Prison Break, but maybe too long for you. Breakout Kings was a regular show about prisoners let out to help the guy from The Wire solve crimes... It only lasted 2 seasons... I loved it!

Angels in America, From the Earth to the Moon, I Claudius, The Stand, Twin Peaks, Caprica, My So-Called Life, Bunheads.

Some are miniseries and some are excellent shows that were cancelled after a single season. I have also included Twin Peaks which went two seasons, but it's worth it.

If you can, check out "Yellowstone", starring Kevin Costner, on the Audience Network provided by DirecTv. Compelling story that moves right along. The first season just concluded and we wait for S02.

Then you're luckier than I am.  I wish I could forget a show that always left a bad aftertaste for me.
