Except on the West Coast, where it is delayed a couple hours.

The 'LIVE' broadcast you see in a local theater on Aug 8th is pre-recorded! The live show itself is on July 27th in Minn and you see the recording on Aug.8th. From the kickstarter itself under the $2395 VIP Guest of Honour category :
"Everything in the YOUR FACE ON SCREEN reward level plus: attend the ACTUAL Live Show ON JULY 27 IN PERSON in MINNEAPOLIS as a guest of RiffTrax! Tickets in the first 5 rows for you and a guest at the State Theatre in Minneapolis. You will appear on screen for a special thank-you, and your photo will be in the end credits. You'll also attend the rehearsal the day of the show, as well as a Meet & Greet the day before with Mike Nelson, Kevin Murphy, and Bill Corbett. You and your guest will each get unique collectible VIP lanyards, plus a Special RiffTrax Swag Bag. [NOTE: You must provide your own travel to and lodging in Minneapolis for the taping of the show on July 27 -- THIS DATE IS DIFFERENT THAN THE FATHOM BROADCAST DATE. We will send details about the live show and the VIP event happening the day before, via email, the week of the show."

btw: this has been done for many of the live shows over the last few years, they rarely are presented live as they happen

Yes! So would I, if one live show sucks (Octaman anybody? And yes I know many of you probably love Octaman Live, and many despise it but that Love/Hate is what makes the Riffing World go 'round) at least there is a chance for redemption with another riff. And not just Joel could learn a lesson from MKB but The Mads as well. Frank and Trace are awesome in a theater or club, the audience laughing so hard is A, if not THE, most enjoyable part of an actually LIVE show and not just plopping your butt in a comfortable chair and staring at a Zoom call. And I know the Rifftrax live show isn't actually live in the theaters, having been recorded a dozen days before the showings in August but at least there is an audience guffawing (hopefully) along with the riffs which makes it an EXPERIENCE and not just two guys flipping jokes at a laptop. Frank and Trace should take note. Covid is over, masks are gone, folks can actually shake hands again, and after 40 or 50 Zoom/Youtube riffs with The Mads it's getting to be what the kids used to call "Old School", and Joel could learn a thing or two about advancing his art, riffing, which he created and not just doing a cash grab and delivering sub-par cheap green screen product. There! Let the hatred begin? I hope not

What I'd like to see Joel do now is just a modest Kickstarter to raise funds for the rights to release the recordings of their live MST tour shows. They've recorded them, but only had the rights for a live performance. I'd love to see those recordings and it's probably way more likely to raise money for that than a whole season production.

Chin chin! I would throw at least a buck at that.

So would I, maybe even a couple bucks. It would also be a great kickstarter because Joel would know exactly how much $$$ he would need to raise for the rights, and since there would be virtually no production costs if they are already recorded the goal wouldn't have to be so extreme like previous attempts. Raise money to cover the rights, make money by selling the recordings. Great idea ageekyguy!

This was done once before for either Star Raiders or Octaman, but that is the only time one has been prerecorded and shown as a Fathom Event later, as far as I can tell

Yep, I stand corrected, it seems it was Octaman broadcast live and Star Raiders was taped the following night for later broadcast to utilize the Nashville facilities. I think I got the broadcast / re-broadcast dates mixed up on the rest. Thanks for the correction!
