Re: Xvid Downloads

Please, please , please, stop using Xvid to download movies. It is an absolute nightmare and 9 times out of 10 they don't work. Go back to the old method, it's the best. You try downloading Xvid Video Codec and see how you go. As I said before "It's a nightmare".Angry

you don't use xvid to download movies. xvid is used to encode videos.

xvid works great, but you shouldn't have to download a codec for them... so my guess is that you downloaded a fake.

if you have a link to the torrent(s) in question, please provide them.

Thanks for replying Stormium. I am not trying to download Xvid. I am trying to download and watch a movie. An example is the Torrens "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes" DVDRip Xvid-P2P (currently on Pirate Bay). What I normally do is download this File on my computer, copy it on my Media Player and watch the movie on my TV. But if it is an Xvid download I am unable to do this as nothing will read this file. The readme file that comes with the movie tells me to run it via Windows Media player and it will automatically change the codec on this file. I've tried and it does not work. Am I doing something wrong? As you can gather, I am new at this and I am trying to get my head around this problem. I've never had this problem in the past, only lately since movies have been downloaded using Xvid. Many thanks again for your interest.RolleyesRolleyes

Firstly, Xvid is the "old method". Most newer uploads are h.264 instead (in .mkv or .mp4 containers). But of course people complain about them too, because not all TVs support the newer formats.

Xvid is arguably the most widely supported format, though there are some options within it which some players can't cope with. It sounds like you have one such player. That is unfortunate but since nothing works for everyone, and Xvids still work for more people than anything else, you're going to have to change your playback methods (or stop downloading Xvids).

Also, you've misunderstood what running via Windows Media Player does. It doesn't "change the codec on the file" it changes the codec on your computer so that it can play the file. But that won't mean anything to your TV.

dvd comes out in december. unless someone invented a time machine, you've downloaded a fake. that's why it won't play.

* NIK "doh" 's

Bob is absolutely correct--there are no DVD rips of "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes" on TPB at the moment--they're uploaded, and fairly quickly deleted, but you obviously snatched it in the interim.

Don't ever download torrents within an hour of them being uploaded and, better yet, give at least a day. That gives the mods (and the fools who rush in) time to spot and delete >90% of the crap.
