The major problem is that they've just been quietly doing it for years as they saw fit without telling anyone (many years before it came up again recently on Twitter), so it's not like there's a changelog of riffs that got altered along the way. Unless someone takes the time to go through all the original and current riffs to be sure there's not any differences (or has an unbelievable memory), there's no way to tell if anything's been changed at all.
