Noob Help
#1
After years of downloading/uploading I have recently got one of those famous letter from my ISP to stop.

I travel a lot for my job so I pretty much just download movies my family have already purchased or shows I have paid for already on cable. It's just an easy way to Skype with family and watch a cartoon like Ice Age with the kids or watch a show like SOA to discuss with the wife. I know some shows I can just watch online but not always around a wifi to stream them. I can always wait several months to watch on DVR but by that time the show is ruined from someone already spilling the beans. Just nice seeing my kids reaction on cartoons and what they think of a certain character and have something to discuss to the wife besides how was your day, since I already miss out on so much.

I know it is bad since I'm in the US but I already paid for them, I'm sure they won't see it that way.

Been talking to a few people and been told to get on a proxy or a VPN. I have been reading up on it but my mind is totally blown away with all the information. What to trust, etc.

I tried a webproxy.net, it shows a different ip when I check my ip but unsure if it is downloading/uploading from that ip or what?

Seriously need some help here...

Point me in the right direction. I'm sure there is a step-to-step guide on this forum somewhere but no unable to locate it. Unless someone can help and give me an A-Z guide. Be much appreciated.

Thank you in Advance!!!

your ISP does not have authority to tell you what you can or can't download. 99.999% of the time letters/emails amount to nothing, it is a passing on of a DMCA "infringement" notice that was sent to your ISP because your IP address was allegedly witnessed in a torrent swarm by a group specifically looking for it.

if one is foolish enough to admit that they have done something "wrong," by replying to an "intellectual property content-holder representative," who knows what could occur. don't be a fool, your best course of action is to completely ignore it, and there is a ridiculously low chance that your ISP will take action at all (keep in mind passing on a stupid notice to you is not them taking action). if they do (by limiting your service in some way, although that's very very rare) then simply change ISPs or call them up and threaten to cancel the service.

On one of my "infractions," my family ISP's disconnected my service. We called back, but not admitting the infraction. I was like, "duh what's piracy?"

After that, they didn't bother since. It was a year since we even received a notice.

Really?!?!I really hope so. The email I got was claiming to be sent by a major TV network to my ISP.

This, like many others, is an example of human life.

If your intent is not evil, then you have nothing to worry about. You don't have to prove it to us to get an answer. If you are trying too hard to convince even yourself, you will fall into pieces. Just act normal, and if you have proof that you are legitimate, just show the proof! Smile
