CT was painful
Not sure when you watched it, or if you're some riffing whipper-snapper, but there was a point when RT was getting really stale (circa 2008) and suddenly CT came along.  Watching it then, they were welcome and not a single part of it was painful.  It was fun to see silhouettes again, and the acting was no worse than anything RT ever delivered live on stage.  It was also fun to hear something besides what was already becoming a tired old formula at 2 or 3 year old RiffTrax.

TL;DR shut up, boy

Might help your case if you didn't try for a shutdown right from the start. Patronising muppet.

1) I'm in my 50s, and have watched MST3K, RT, and the rest, from the jump
2) Never said a word about RT not having stale moments. It most certainly does
3) To me, it was painful.

Trying to use some manufactured "credentials" against me though? Pitiful. Truly pitiful. You are feeble enough to have written for CT.

Nothing about this was about MST3K or RT, it was all about how bad I found CT to be.

Oh no my feelings.

Credentials?  I was saying it was a breath of fresh air at the time.  Congrats on being an elderly person grandpa.

If it was painful for you, fair enough.  I'm sure you get your fair share of pain in your old age.

Hope you don't die!

I wish I could give this a "thumbs up" I'm as old as this guy, but recognized the obvious brilliance of Cinematic Titanic at the time and now.

Watched about 45 minutes of the MST3K thing. What was the point? The movie audio was too low, ok, technical glitch, I can accept it. But the new lady and bots just sat there for 90% of it, and when they did speak, it wasn't funny. And now Gypsy is "GPC"? Holy shit. Let's face it, MST3K is dead, but Joel won't stop parading its corpse around.

Calling a character "Gypsy" in 2020 is on the same level as calling your character "Jew". DC found out they couldn't use characters like Gypsy and Apache Chief anymore, either.

Disney Plus has a special warning they air in front of movies like Dumbo.

Personally, I enjoyed the count down the most. I'm always a fan of funny music.

Edit: nevermind.

I tried to watch it and it was just too distracting and just couldn't concentrate on the riffs. I would of prefered a single new riff instead on piling jokes upon jokes and you could barely hear the new ones.

Agreed. This thing was an epic pigfuck. I don't think Joel has a clue anymore. He may have entered the late-Jerry-Lewis-period of his career as many comedians have where they are no longer funny or self-aware because they (apparently) are so wrapped-up in past successes and their legacy that they simply cannot be relevant or humorous.

The Netflix series (which I regard as an abject failure despite the non-Joel talent involved), the nostalgia tour, and now this . . . oy vey . . .

In a universe-folding-in-upon-itself/divide-by-zero fantasy, I envision someone riffing "MST3K LIVE Social Distancing Riff-Along Special", making fun of how terrible it is and thereby somehow, through Meta Comedy Science®, bringing us all back to a better, funnier timeline and curing Joel of his Joelness.

Other than that, I have no feelings on the matter . . .

The amount of entitled snobbery in this thread is absurd. And I haven't even hit page 2 yet...

I thought the Netflix series was awesome. Have seen two shows of the tour (not the others yet).

Joel Hodgson still got it. He is still the master of riffing!

So, given that the latest MST3K is not the same calibre as it was back in 1988, why is it that Joel ATB hasn't what Mike ATB has?
What makes Rifftrax (arguably) better than S11 & S12 of MST3K?

I can call out that the riffs come too quick and that the humor is too contrived, but why?

Hubris, perhaps? This is my take.

The fact that Rifftrax has Bill/Kevin/Mary Jo/Bridget in the mix is essential, honestly. MST3K was lightning in a bottle and you can't just make it happen again with a entirely new writing staff/cast. Also I think having Mike as head writer was incredibly important to the Joel era, as funny as he is.

Joel seems to treat cast members as expendable which is not great - it would be hard enough trying to revive the series again with Jonah, saying "if you bring the show back for s13 there will be *another* new cast" is a bit much.
