MST3K Cinematic Editions

I actually did this largely using the method you described although I'm back at the drawing board trying to improve it as the false-positive noise is bothering me. (I haven't had/made much time for this since though as life has been busy):

I just learned about these "Cinematic Editions" and I'm quite impressed. I found the Mega Drive link on the first page with the archive to date, but that date seems to be a year ago. Is there an archive of stuff put out since then? Or a better Google Drive or Archive with all of them as of today?

I noticed some one-off episodes being shared as individual mega links, but is the effectively the same quality as just downloading them off YouTube?
Has GaryInMotion shared any of these as raw files, or just the one episode that was blocked by YouTube?

Also, are the "BD Upgrades" essentially the same type of thing, being done by a different group?

Sorry, just trying to get up to speed with the efforts made by this fan-community. So far I was deeply impressed with bsg4u collections, and figured that was everything up until March 2018. But it looks like, even though there aren't any official DVDs since then.... the work hasn't stopped at preserving MST3K.

Cheers!

Funny this got brought back to the top again, because I saw this the other day...

Gary's been taking MST3K episodes and replacing the video of the movie segments with the uncut version of the film in higher quality.

When people do upgrades on here, it's mostly with Rifftrax films, so you don't have to worry about tampering with host segments or losing the silhouettes (something Riffling was trying to work around over here). Rifftrax upgrades tend to just be direct replacement of the video source, which - for the Rifftrax VODs - varies wildly in quality. People here on the forum often do edits to match the original Rifftrax version and/or an unedited version with no riffing during the parts cut from the Rifftrax for various reasons (usually for content, flow, or the fact that long boring segments that are hard to joke about might not be worth having). It's not really a group effort; people just do upgrades and throw them up here. There's even a rare duplication where people each do their own upgrade. But they just come along when people feel like doing them. Same thing goes for the rare occurrence of an MST3K upgrade.

I don't really keep track of MST3K upgrades and never paid attention to the Cinematic Editions myself, as I have no interest in them. So I don't have any links and don't have any files to upload. As far as MST3K preservation, there's the link in my last paragraph, an upgrade of This Island Earth, and the recent post about the MST3K Restoration Project, but - for the most part - everything that can be done has been and you can't do too much more to upgrade an old show, shot on video in low definition without destroying a lot of the charm of it.

Gary should write a book. I'd buy it.  Thanks a lot for the link!

GaryInMotion made a Cinematic Editions debut here on our forums, but then decided to remove his mega links and claimed they were DCMA'd... after that it was just easier to rip them from YouTube via jDownloader.  I have now lost track of whether any have been taken down from YouTube, but there are plenty there on his YouTube channel now.

The project is fine, and have made a much better watch out of a couple of the poorer quality sources used by Best Brains.  You still have the audio, but the audio was often fine while the video was terrible.  However, it is nowhere near the scope or as cool as the Restoration Project by Riffling.
