MST-HD Remaster upscaling help + most-wanted poll
#1
Hi folks! If anyone with Topaz is able to lend some processor time I could use help upscaling the DVD of the next MST3K episode I'm about to tackle for Vol. 3 of my MST-HD project. My computer just isn't modern enough to handle Topaz. I have the episode deinterlaced, but an upscale would push it up another notch, plus it would match the quality of the first two remasters.

I also wanted to take a poll of which episodes people most want to see remastered. This will have to be based on what's available in HD. I would absolutely love to tackle First Spaceship On Venus but unfortunately it's only ever been released on DVD. So stick to what's out there, think about which films look great on blu-ray, and I'll keep your responses in mind as I plot future episodes. Let's hear your top 3...

Mine:
1. Godzilla vs The Sea Monster
2. (Vol. 3's episode)
3. Earth vs. the Spider

Probably a lot of work, but personally The Day The Earth Froze is my favorite. I know Gary in Motion did a version with a great picture, possibly from BluRay, but not sure

@Handy Thanks for reaching out! Check your PM's.

@anarchemist They're all a lot of work lol. I've definitely had my eye on that Sampo blu-ray for The Day The Earth Froze. It would be an incredible upgrade. Worth all the work involved.

That would be a good one. That movie's nuts. Is it available in HD?

Not on bluray but apparently it's on Itunes and Vudu in HD. But I couldn't find a rip out in the wild.

...whereas Sampo looks beautiful on Bluray! I remember trying to watch the GaryInMotion version and watching the old MST copy at the same time. I remember feeling like the timing was off and certain jokes were really not hitting because the moment onscreen had either passed or not arrived. As terrible as the picture is, the old MST one is a LOT funnier. This is one of the main reasons I thought this might be even more work than some--because I know it was done wrong once already.
It isn't widescreen, but at least Moon Zero Two already has a pretty excellent picture. I think you will get a far greater sense of accomplishment from The Day the Earth Froze! lol. (I'm grateful for whatever. I lean toward the earlier Joel episodes, but Mike has done at least as many classic episodes too.)
