Is it just me or are people becoming meaner ?

It seems to me that people are getting meaner and nastier every day. I don't get it ! Am I the only one noticing this or is this just my imagination? My mother insists that it's the Internet and my girlfriend thinks it's the food.

Frankly I'm not sure what to think. Any ideas or comments ?

Depends on where you are encountering these mean and nasty people.

It's easy to be mean and nasty to people you aren't face to face with. The technology that allows this is hasn't been around all that long.

Perhaps no one has gotten any meaner or any nastier. The same technology just happens to expose us to more of them than before.

I'm just noticing this trend in general. It doesn't seem to matter if I'm at the grocery store, playing chess in the park or parking my car. Everyone just seems to be getting meaner and more intolerant. I can't figure it out, it just seems to be getting worse every week.

It actually kind of scares me.

I have a suspicion for why we are getting this feeling.
Actually there's a reasonable explanation: click

I get the feeling that wealth inequality is just another symptom of the underlying problem. I know couple of well to do people and they've become super assholes.

Since about 2005 things just keep getting worse and worse. I also notice that racism is really on the rise and people are also starting to hate the handicapped. All this stuff happening is kind of the reason I'm into vintage, I like the simpler times.

Late modern individualism... It's a disease. And, I think, the underlying structural problem. People are forgetting how to think beyond their own nose. And all layers of society encourages that kind of thinking- from pop music / television series to politics. It's good for commerce you know. If the human being can be definitively transformed into homo economicus, market idealistic economics might actually work Wink - It's kinda backwards, social change in order to fit an economic ideology, rather than the natural way around: changing the ideology in order to fit the social structures that be... But nevertheless, that's the limbo we're stuck in.

Only one explanation :
Our moral degradation with so called modernization.
If this trend continues we will soon lose the right to be called humans, as per the trend we will soon lose all human qualities and will become identical to animals.

I kind of see what ill88eagle is saying and I agree with Alien. All I can say is it really scares the hell out of me.

I kind of need to use a moblity scooter from time to time. Last month I was at the grocery store and I accidentally bumped some woman's cart. She yelled at me yelling stuff like that a good doctor wouldn't save the life of a child born to a crackie. All I did was bump her shopping car, I didn't even touch her or cause any damage. That's the kind of mean scary stuff I'm seeing and it appears to me to be getting worse.
