Say, I have found a nice book someone uploaded a long time ago onto their site, the file is not hosted anymore, though. Their private messaging system seems to be completely useless.

Send e-mail to their admins. Perhaps the book is still on their servers, but the indexing system has changed. If the book is deleted, hard luck then.
