Queen's Speech: Hackers who risk lives by attacking food, energy and police computer networks face life in prison

Quote: Computer hackers who threaten British national security face life imprisonment under plans unveiled today.

Malicious hackers who risk triggering deadly civil unrest by cutting off food distribution, telephone networks or energy supplies by sabotaging computer networks could be sentenced to life in prison, under measures introduced in the Queen’s Speech.

The Computer Misuse Act will be amended to include a new aggrevated offence of unauthorised access to a computer. The existing offence of impairing a computer only carries a maximum sentence of 10 years’ imprisonment.

Ministers believe that punishment does not reflect the potential damage to the economy and the risk to human life posed by a devastating attack by internet terrorists, or a lone hacker working from their bedroom.

The threat has grown as businesses and government become more reliant on interconnected computer networks, making attacks with "serious consequences" more likely. .....................

Might be a deterrent if 'Life In Prison' actually meant that rather than a 'Life License'.

Telegraph source doesn't have technical explanation of how he's doing it. It's just full of text says how bad breaching security are and how bad hacker are. If the guy really breaching the system and the country want their country economy system safe, they supposed just spent ton of pounds on firewall instead taking someone's life for cutting internet cable.

This is how they want to make sure no-one will be able to hack those food, engery etc. supllies, they are trying to scare everyone with those senteces ... Take a look at all leaked e-mails from Egypt, Turkey.... they all working togheter, making plans about our lives, making some "one face laws"... This can't go like this, like you Hack a company and you get life time, but you murder or rape, or even if you are pedophile you get from minimum 8 years to Life-time, that is maddness, by these laws it means they more respect computers then human beings, as if you harm computer you will get bigger sentence then harming a kid or a groun-up person. Stupidity !!!
