I'd strip naked and try to stand right in the path of whatever meteor or missile is going to hit us...
I hate going CAMPING due to the lack of modern amenities... And I have ZERO hunting skills... If any of you think it'll be pretty, watch The Road, with Aragon... IMDB Or, if your one of those nerfyreadin types like Workerbee, the movie was made from the book so you can get your horror that way. There is a TV show with (mostly) bored rich people throwing $$ on prepping for the end. I saw one where he was trining his young daughter to shoot... NOthing wrong with that, but the reasoning behind it (prepping for the zombie era and either shoot or be eaten), is mentally unsound... And I know a thing or three about mentally unsound! Great question. Just in time for Halloween. Think of all the scary slasher, cannibalistic movies, times that by 1000, and you are still nowhere near. Like a reverse description from Trainspotting about Heroin... Short answer: I'd wanna die (in case my answer above was unclear...)

Tear drop camper, TV,Stereo, AC, generator on the tongue converted to run on propane or gas, two weeks of food for cats and dog, full water 30 ga tank, short barrel 12 gauge, mini 14 with multiple high caps and 2000 rounds of 223 hollow points, clothes, medication, 3 first aid kits and 4 weeks of dehydrated and can food. And I live far away from people - less than 1 hour and I am in the wilderness that takes a 4 wheel drive and a good map. Truck is also stocked to survive long term. I already go 3 to 4 weeks without stopping so no big difference to me.
Do I want to live in a desolate world? Won't bother me, I don't like people anyway. Too old to give a flying F**K anymore. Less people the better IMHO.

Depends on what kind of apocalypse. Something like a meteor strike, there is no such thing as personal prep and we will all die unless the various governments stop it. But, ignoring total lost causes-
Zombie apocalypse: Given that there are three major US cities within 3 hours of my present location, I would imagine there would be quite a few zombies showing up in this area as well as people fleeing metropolitan centers showing up and competing for resources. Other than that, there's a nuclear power plant nearby, plenty of farmland, and a lot of guns. I'd give myself about 20-30% survival (assuming most zombies are slow, virus isn't airborne) Coronal Mass Ejection knocking out the power: Not ready at all for this. Survival chance is intimately tied with how strong the CME is, where a large event could knock out global power for a year or longer, and with it, refrigeration. Its not as sexy as a zombie apocalypse, but it would be worthy in its own right. I'd give myself about a 50% chance due to my plans to begin stockpiling canned goods. Not a survival nut, I just feel a lot more comfortable knowing I am not going to starve anytime soon. Nuclear War: Well, it depends where the bombs fall. There are a couple scenarios that project a slim survival chance due to bomb proximity. Then, there is the possibility of long term food shortage with nuclear fallout impacting agricultural produce and nuclear winter. Then, the possibility of large numbers of people fleeing big cities would create competition for local resources. 0%-50% depending on the various factors.

within our lifetime earths magnetosphere will be weak enough for satellites to crash the space station uninhabitable power grid draining etc. I have some tools to lessen its effect. A device that generates electricity and another device that splits hydrogen and oxygen from water supplying gas for heating and cooking and oxygen to help replenish earths supply

Well let's see:
I did a courses in wilderness survival and in bushcraft. I've got 2 shotguns, 2 pairs of hiking boots, a camping axe, arctic sleep bags and an arctic tent. Hmmm... I should get some camouflage clothing and high quality camping cookware.

I don't wanna think about it. If it destroys everything, you can't survive, unless you know someone who lives in a bunker. Perhaps we could ask the U.S if we can "borrows' theirs.

The problem is that there so many damn variations on TEOWAKI that it is impossible to prepare for them all.
A bunker for a nuke war? Useless for tidal waves, grid failures, and zombies. They need air vents. Which can be flooded or smoked out. Emigration? Depends on which side host takes in war or financial disaster. One can become an enemy alien, or a fiscal burden with health issues. A 90 day food supply is possibly the best overall advice. Stock up on cider vinegar for pickling whats in freezer. Along with plenty of salt. Even a financial collapse hyperinflation normally starts to correct after a couple of months. Urban dwellers are scrooood in *any* major disaster, and all prepping does is provide after dinner snacks for the cannibals. Money and fungibles would be necessary, but currency and cryptos useless.Note the differences. |
