According to the article it will be another handful of years before they are able to break 256bit encryption. there's still time to invent a stronger one. And it will be done. Simple dialectics

The problem with quantum computing is that not all problems are solvable with them, they are limited in algorythms.
And since the electronics is still limited by c, the speed goes down as size goes up. Plus, even in theory the results are purely probabilistic. Imagine a computer with only 99% accuracy as an air traffic controller. The google device is mostly hogwash, with about 65% accuracy, and presented to the public mainly as a ploy to establish patent, and not quantum - supremacy.

So its roughly 1000 times faster than an IBM supercomputer, with a 35% error factor.
So IBM can just add 1000 times more cores to the next HAL series, with a 0.00000001% or less error rate Which would you want on your navigation system to Mars? |
