Just saw the pinot noir thing. Got to agree, that is a great varietal of wine. I also dig merlot and shiraz. I don't care what anybody says. Also riesling.

Milk Punch? I think I've tried that and didn't like it. But I've always loved milk and I've a soft spot for milky/creamy drinks which I've mostly sublimated. They're not considered very manly around here. I'll certainly give that a try.
Kraken? The dark spiced rum I assume you mean? I'd never heard of it but I googled. Don't think I can get it here but I'll keep a look out. With muddled cherries? That is something I'd never even imagined but I'll add it to my list. It's interesting when you study the whole range of drinks available how overwhelmingly dominant citrus is. Between them orange/lemon/lime/grapefruit are in probably 60% + of cocktails. Way more than any other fruit or any other secondary ingredient. Aside: trivia for y'all. The use of the term "cocktail" to refer to mixed drinks in general is a 20th century evolution. Originally, a "cocktail" was just one specific formula/family of mixed drinks; spirit+sweetener+water+bitters. Compared to a drink containing spirit+sweetener+water which was called a "sling" or a spirit+sour ingredient+sweetener+water which was a "punch". Water being the forerunner if you like of ice, as ice wasn't cheaply/readily available back in the day. Re. the island, it's not quite as dramatic as it sounds but it is a true story. Don't drink and boat. I like Merlot too, that was my fav before I discovered Pinot. I like Pinot Gris as well actually. If pushed I'd have to say that's my favorite white. And I like Muscato for quaffing. But I'm not really a wine drinker. I'd say by preference I like spirits, beer and then wine. But in terms of liquid volume consumed I drink more beer than spirits.

Let's talk about beer. It could take its own entire thread. I prefer the 7%+ IPAs. Currently sipping on a Founder's Centennial IPA. Other favorites include Smuttynose Finest Kind, Lagunitas Hop Stupid, Lagunitas Maximus, Sierra Nevada Torpedo Extra IPA, and Long Trail Limbo IPA.

Feel free to talk about beer but I'm not even remotely qualified to join that discussion. Mostly I drink cheap generic lager, whatever is to hand. I drink real ale when I'm in the UK, but truthfully I wouldn't be able to tell you the difference between any of it in a blind taste test.
I do like Guinness (but not out of cans), and not when I'm in the US and they serve it ice-cold.

I don't drink much beer and wine, and know nothing about them. Actually they're expensive and hard to come by around here. I like Heineken and Stella but will try nearly anything twice - Beers, like women, usually get better on a second date. Won't waste my time with some modern fruit flavored beers and metrosexual girls though. Sadly, Corona was a big deception and I don't understand why that newspaper-tasted watered thing is so cult. Must be the marketing. And I don't want to insult but Bud... I rather have something more european than american; maybe canadian; japanese yes sure.

Try some GOOD American beers. Like craft IPAs. The macro lagers like bud are piss water. They use terrible ingredients like rice.

No, I wasn't on my own (until I was left there, passed out, with no food or means of communication, for what later transpired to be rather epic lulz).

Srewdrivers are pretty good, that is how I learned of the Absinth drink and Sex on the Beach (not physical).
I just happened to hear these drinks being asked for when playing billiards. Lemme know your thoughts on these two.

Sex on the Beach is a famous cocktail invented in the 1980s. It is on my list of things to try but it requires peach schnapps which I don't have.
Absinthe I've left it for a later phase of my project for several reasons. Mainly because it was out of major commercial production for so long, and in the last 20 years has exploded, so it's hard to get a handle on the brands and know what to start with. It's relatively expensive and it's strongly aniseed/licorice flavored. I don't want my first experience with it to be a bad one. Also, there are a lot of more familiar and accessible drinks to try first. I have had Ouzo before, which is another aniseedy spirit, and I recall liking that, so I have high hopes for absinthe. |
