Favourite Arcade Emulator?
#1
Before long, I've been using Final Burn Alpha, which I learned today that it's supplanted by Final Burn Neo.

What is your favourite arcade emulator?

When I first started playing arcade ROMs, I used to deploy MAME32 and Raine. The former was pretty impressive, but the Raine is merely mediocre.

I found Final Burn to be pretty good as it does have a more intuitive GUI.

For those who run arcade ROMs, let's share some details and glean from each other.

Thank you.

I just use MAME, have been for yonks. Just seems to work with the games that I play. To be honest I had not heard of Final Burn until I read your post.

With previous versions of Final Burn (I don't know about Neo), I recall that you can enter control inputs and (perhaps) game options in the GUI and not have to push a button and do it from there.

Makes it convenient and beginner-friendly.

And Final Burn, as I know it, is constantly updated. I don't think MAME(32) is updated anymore.

I liked Visual Pinball / PinMAME very much.

I don't know about MAME32, but MAME itself is pretty much up to date.

Do you still use MAME?

Is there a online/LAN function with MAME that MAME32 doesn't have, other than Kaillera?

I like Fightcade, but it only accepts 2 players in the same game.
Previously, I used a Chinese emulator called SupARC (ARCLive), but I think this emulator is dead.
There is another Chinese emulator called GOTVG and it allows up to 4 players, but I find it extremely difficult to interact with Chinese players.
A post on Apknite said that Mamehub or RetroArch is worth to try. Is there any good arcade emulator that allows 4-6 players for online gaming?

What a difference four years make!

I found one, and it's pretty good: it's called Final Burn Neo.

Doesn't just emulate arcades; can do Sega consoles, NES, and more!

When I first started emulating arcade games back in the day, I was only emulating Neo-Geo, so it was some Neo-Geo specific emulator (can't really remember which). Due to Neo-Geo being so easy to emulate, the performance was very good.

Soon after that, I wanted to emulate other arcade games, and discovered that MAME can emulate Neo-Geo along with other arcade systems. Ever since then I've been using MAME, and that was more than 20 years ago.

I haven't tried Final Burn. If it's available for Linux I should at least take it for a spin some day.
