Erroneous trackers URLs
#1
I much appreciate that you still provide tracker URLs with the torrents despite the forum moderators' anti-tracker agenda. And I very VERY much appreciate that you not just have updated the tracker URL list but also provide plenty of them. DHT is insufficient in many cases, and definitely so for my needs. I consider it a last ditch effort for the very patient. Anyway…

It seems that two of the links are erroneous.
  • udp://9.rarbg.to:2710/announce returns a connection error for me. My networking skills might be lacking here, but I don't understand why there are two links to essentially the same address, as there is also udp://9.rarbg.to:2730 which works. The 2710 port variant seem just wrong and superfluous to me.
  • http://p4p.arenabg.com:1337/announce gets no response. After a quick search I found udp://p4p.arenabg.com:1337 instead, which seems to be the right one. UDP instead of HTTP that is.

As a sidenote and FYI udp://exodus.desync.com:6969 has been working for some time now and many older torrents connect mainly to that one, so I think you should consider adding it back again.

Thank you very much for your work.

Four days ago I added a new torrent. And lo and behold, http://p4p.arenabg.com:1337 worked! So I was going to write that I guess we could scratch that. But the day after it didn't work parts of the day. Thereafter it worked on those times a day I checked. The UDP variant worked fine all the time though, so I would still urge TPB to change.

Most of these trackers go up and down like the wind blows. As long as some of them are alive and kicking you are good to go. Also I doubt "winston" takes anything we post here into account.

Thank you for replying. I know that trackers can be erratic, but when one way of connecting to a server is obviously superior to another and also the stated method by the provider, I think it's a no-brainer. I mean, it's essentially just a typo. Unless there's a special reason that I'm unaware of, which I gladly would like to be enlightened about. I was somewhat expecting this to be ignored, but I still wanted to voice my opinion.

The TPB hierachy goes like this:
"Winston" - guy in charge, has access to TPBs codebase and can make changes to it
<<<powergap>>>
Everybody else
There has been numerous complaints since TPBs last makeover (comments gone, registration is down, etc, etc) and winston aint doing shit to fix it. There is no telling if he even reads this forum. We usually curse at him, so if he does, he is unlikely to give a shit.
Likewise there is no telling what algorithms he has in place to provide peer stats and other stuff. We can only guess...
As for the trackers, my guess is TPB is taking the list from somewhere else. That is what I would do anyway. Have a monthly script check some site that keeps an updated list of working trackers with up/downtime stats and add the top 5 or 10 to the (dynamically created) magnets... It's a black box though. Even MOE wont be able to tell you how it's done - and he will tell you to go full DHT anyway...

Any more I just delete all trackers and add a new batch from this:
https://github.com/ngosang/trackerslist#readme
Select all trackers
CTRL A to select all
CTRL C to copy
CTRL V to paste in the "add a tracker" window

So the captain is asleep and the first officer has no real privileges and just shouts "DHT!" to everyone and their mother. Very sad.

Oh man, so the comments are gone..! I thought it was my browser and the site that didn't play along, it was iffy for a long time. Or was it the file list… Either way the comment section was a bit of a gold mine, many issues were resolved there.

That makes sense with the automated torrent list. Thanks for the heads up.

It's crucial that everyone torrenting utilises the same tracker(s) so that they can connect to each other, or else the purpose of trackers is defeated, at least on torrents with very few peers, particularly a lone peer.

I'm very happy with the current tracker list at large, it should last a good while. I just wanted to fix what I thought were obvious errors to perfect it. Because I care. But it really is good as it is.
