The 50th anniversary episode will air at 7.50pm on 23 November. It is going to be broadcast as part of a worldwide simulcast in over 75 countries.

The BBC has released a synopsis for the 75-minute episode promising everything from Elizabethan murder to ancient space battles.

The official statement said: "The Doctors embark on their greatest adventure in this 50th anniversary special.

"In 2013, something terrible is awakening in London's National Gallery; in 1562, a murderous plot is afoot in Elizabethan England; and somewhere in space an ancient battle reaches its devastating conclusion.

"All of reality is at stake as the Doctor's own dangerous past comes back to haunt him."

And Doctor Who boss Steven Moffat says the episode will "change the narrative".

kjf: you should definitely go for it!

It's worth the while - some great story telling in the 2005-present series. In fact, the whole Doctor Who Universe is worth a try:
So while you're at it, also take a look at Torchwood (at least the first two seasons) and even The Sarah Jane Adventures.

Interesting. It's not release in my country yet.
Heard alot about this series but decided not to watch since i heard it's fist season are a very old series. Already watching torchwood first season and still on second episode. No wonder i feel torchwood like a sequel from something when first saw it. It's turn out a spin off.
Gonna have to start from the beginning with Dr.Who.

The first season actually is very old.

It all started in the sixties (23 November 1963) with a revolutionary concept around a scifi story made for the young adult audience.
The brilliant idea that kept the series alive for such a long time is the regeneration process of The Doctor.
Whenever an actor has outlived his run as a doctor, they are able to replace him with a new one, that always gives The Doctor character a spin of his own.

The show was not continuous on air the whole 50 years, though.

The original series ran from 1963 until 1989.
After that a TV movie was produced in 1996.
In 2005 the series got finally rebooted with Christopher Eccleston as the Ninth Doctor and kept since going with The Doctor regenerating two more times, making David Tennant and Matt Smith the Tenth and Eleventh Doctor.

If you want to start watching, but don't want to (or technically can not) do so with the very first series, you are good to go with the reboot from 2005.

But the beauty of the Doctor Who concept is, that each generation made it's own contribution to the development of the series.
So the old gems are still very well worth watching Wink.

@man0tor
That was very very old Smile
Well, I'll start with the reboot then and will looking for the original series if it's still out there for future reference.
I have to stop with torchwood now since it probably contained some spoiler and will get back later after at least finishing the first season of the reboot version.
Many thanks for the info.
Appreciated it.

I so loved this episode. I teared up with the ending cameo - Tom Baker was the first doctor I saw. Used to watch Tom Baker reruns with my dad, late at night when I was just about 5 years old.

I also loved the scenes where it showed clips from all the other doctors helping out. Troughton and Pertwee are other old favorites Big Grin
