Do or don't? Ethical aspects of file sharing

Great question.

If I stole a car chances are I'd get caught. I won't doing this.

Plus, I am a voracious music lover and collector. I have over 2000 albums, 3000 cds and 2TB of FLAC files. Before file sharing I made 100's of tapes for people and shared music. Never did I think about the consequences to the artist's wallet. When I discovered TPB I was like a kid in a candy store. At one point I felt like I had to give back and started altruistically uploading music that wasn't available. Not everyone does and that's fine. Someone who just chooses to download files needs to know that seeding back to at least a 1:1 ratio is a must to keep our community alive.

Rationalize what? To distance yourself from what? Huh

The message for me is in the "sharing" of file sharing. And it's that simple.

Let me rephrase myself.. Why is it so much easier to distance yourself from ethical aspects (ex. "stealing" from someone) online? Why is it easier to ignore societal morals and laws once you're on the internet? Do you get it? Tongue

You said that you're not against file sharing, and now you say that file sharing is "stealing" and that it "ignore societal morals", so no, I don't get it.

Your a budding Anthropologist correct?. Your social norms were honed and defined by your up bringing. So what's socially acceptable by you atm is already structured.
Your OP is bringing you outside and into "the under belly". You've made the comparison / distinction yourself between "stealing" and online (internet).

So to enable you to have a balanced and worth while experience between you the Anthropologist and us the file sharers. Where are you on the whole debate.
After all your looking for the human condition and were all human here? Smile

I just mean that society approach it as stealing, and that file sharing is "ignoring societal morals".. not my personal beliefs..

Sorry if I'm confusing you.. communication fail I guess Undecided

The "society" doesn't approach anything as anything. Your personal beliefs are the only thing that you are exposing here, and you're full of misconceptions.
