Cannot download torrents to my computer
#1
I am a newbie to The PirateBay and not generally very knowledgable when it comes to computers generally.  I own a Mac and recently downloaded the Yosemite version.  Since doing that I am no longer able to download Torrents.  When I click on "Get this Torrent" all that happens is that The PirateBay tab disappears and is replaced by a blank tab on my window.  Any help to rectify this problem would be much appreciated!

Not a site issue, moved to Applications and Software /Mod

First, you need a torrent client.

Second, your browser needs to be configured to pass magnet links to the installed client.

You didn't mention what torrent client or browser you are using, so more specific instructions can't be provided.

Thank you for your offer to help!  My torrent client is uTorrent and the browser I am using is Safari.  Downloads were working just fine prior to upgrading to OS X Yosemite.

Me again. Since this post was moved to Applications and Software, I started reading the other posts and found that someone who uses FireFox as their browser has no difficulty downloading to uTorrent. I have just downloaded FireFox and am now happily downloading the movie I wanted. Thanks to everyone concerned for my being able to fix my problem!

i had that same problem when i tried to download torrents. i now have to right click on "get this torrent" and then click on "copy link location" in the menu. i then have to go to utorrent and press CTRL and U at the same time and hit ENTER. no idea how i stumbled upon that , but it's the only way for me to download now. i don't use a Mac and my browser is TOR, so not sure if it will be of any assistance to you. Good Luck
Tricky.

Thanks for your input tricky29... wow, that was quite a tricky solution!  I simply changed my browser from Safari to Firefox when downloading torrents, no problem at all now.  Many thanks for your suggestion.  Smile

First, in the uTorrent General preferences, click "Check Now" and set it as the default client.  That should re-associate uTorrent as the default handler for the magnet protocol.

If that doesn't work, this little utility can be used to properly associate magnet links with your preferred client:

Firefox maintains its own list of protocol handlers, which is why is works while Safari doesn't.
