Cannot open in new tab using FireFox
#1
There's some sort of issue with opening TPB links "in a new tab".

Whether it's middle-clicking, right-clicking and then selecting "open in new tab", or even clicking a link, then Ctrl+clicking the back button, I cannot open TPB in "new tabs"

I often do this because I'm looking through several entries in the same search.

To be complete, I've tested this and it works perfectly fine in Chrome.

Having the same issue using firefox on xubuntu so it's not just you. Wasn't an issue just a few days ago though...?

AND surprise surprise - when I disable adblock plus, 'open in new tab' works - along with a shitload of unsolicited pop-ups featuring gawd knows what browser hijacks Dodgy

I guess it's winston's way of saying fuck you I'm only in it for the moni

Oh well, right clicking is not disabled (yet), so you can copy link location then hit ctrl+t, ctrl+v and enter

There is nothing TPB, or any other site for that matter, can do to prevent you from opening a link in a new tab or window.

The application or one of its plugins can definitely do that.

Then it would be a case of adblock plus specifically blocking the function on TPB?

Riddle me this: when I middle click on any links in the header it works. When I middle click on any link in the body it doesn't.

Also, according to various users on stackoverflow you can as a matter of fact disable the "open in new tab" function in JS -> https://stackoverflow.com/questions/1716...s/17169473

Edit: Just tried in a fresh chrome installation w. adblock plus - got the same results

So I opened the "inspect element" window and clicked the ABP icon to find out if adblock is indeed blocking me from opening links in new tabs, and lo and behold:

In conclusion, adblock plus detects bad pop-ups on the torrent links (which are put there intentionally by winston or whomever designed the 2.0 JS version of TPB), and consequently blocks them from opening.

And whichever way you spin that, it still boils down to winston saying fuck you guys I want my moni

You've answered your own question.  In none of those cases is the web site disabling the browser's native ability to use one of its functions.  I know this is becoming a case of semantics as you are observing a break in functionality, but either it is intentional JS dickery removing a link target so the browser no longer recognizes it as a link, or hijacking the contextual menu altogether.

In the TPB case, it isn't Winston trying to prevent you from opening the link in a new tab or window, but a case of AIDZ covering up the existence of the actual link.  And yes, that is because all Winston cares about is monis.

I use Firefox and TPB and have no issues right-clicking links and opening them in a new tab.  I suspect it is because I use the NoScript add-on and only allow JS from TPB, apibay, and torrindex.  That keeps the rest of the AIDZ out.
