Norton AV to Norton Security migration help.
#1
I need to renew my Norton Anti Virus subscription. OS: Win7.

I gathered that Norton has changed its product and now has just one Norton Security (NS), instead of the usual three (AV/IS/360).

Quote:Please note, Norton Security replaces Norton Antivirus, Norton Internet Security and Norton 360. There is no direct upgrade path from those products to Norton Security - you'll have to buy a new licence - but of course they will still protect you until the end of your current subscription.

The above product was released on 23 Sep 2014. However, it does not seem available as yet for me.

What would you advice ?
1) Just buy another Norton AV license (no upgrade to NS).
2) Use another AV software till Norton Security becomes available. (Kaspersky 2015 seems available, but I have used Norton all along and hence in a dilemma)

Also the official note from Norton is not clear to me.
It seems to say, one cannot upgrade to NS, but a chat with Customer care can help. Has anyone tried it ?

Quote:For those who wish to get NS and NSBU now, and are concerned about losing subscription time for your existing NIS/N360/NAV products, we recommend that you contact our Customer Support team via Chat to find the best option available

Thank you. :-)

Well, you need to use an antivirus that is current, no matter what it is, so option 2 would be good for me. Consider making it an interim antivirus. Licence renewal sounds good too, but you may not be getting the latest technology; just the definition database, especially if you're going to pay an extra year's worth of definitions.

Thanks for the heads up about Symantec merging the Norton products; I would have just still used Norton 360 without you telling us. THANKS!

Thanks RX. Will probably do that. Kaspersky 2015 has a good rating from pcmag and it is 'low priced'.

Norton AV was low priced (when purchased via retail outlets) and served my needs. NS will probably be expensive.
I can't seem to find a trial version either. There's only a "NS beta" on their site.

Well before you commit to anything, wait; any course of action at this point is too premature. Do some research first, even pirate it off here in TPB; install it and see what it's like. If good, buy it, if not, delete it. You don't know what NS is capable of, so just wait.

There are guys who will release reviews as to whether the newer product should be bought, like web sites and magazines.

I remember doing that before buying Windows 98; it paid off. Then after, I started pirating, so... Wink

Hope this helps.

Got it.
Yes. I've been reading nothing but reviews in the last 2 days. :-(

Maybe i'll chose Avast or a certain 'Panda Free AV 2015' for the interim period.
Or maybe get another license key and prolong Norton AV itself.
I've still got some days left on my current subscription.

When it comes to apps I would like to play it safe. So no pirating. :-)

Came across this article. 'Symantec to be split in two'. Good news / Bad news ?
