Hacking (choping) the graphics card
#1
I just got a Lenovo (Intel i3-7100) small form PC and a nVidia GT-1030 but it won't fit.

Lenovo has a cool tilting (swinging) drive bay for ease of access. Kinda like HP and Dell business PCs all have.
It can't close but some 5mm off the card should let'me. Printed circuit looks like one thick lane but without use, just some metal the board designer left there. Im really thinking about using a handheld circular saw to slice that board - plus part of the fan-less alluminum dissipator. I believe I'll be allright if I check the other side of the board and see no crossing tracks.

Any hints on how to cut a graphics card?

*BTW: I know its a crappy GPU but its low profile and the i3-7100 isn't great either. Will see to buy another PC later.

Maybe you should have checked the compatibility before buying? I wouldnt advice putting a circular blade to a pcb no matter how safe it looks Smile

It was a pawn shop thing, plenty of those trift / second hand / recycle stores here.

But the board was closed in box (shop had three or four of those nFraudia 1030's) and they're infamously not accomodating when it comes to test things. Also they hate wasting time better serving their customers.

So I will try a jigsaw (oscillating) or a manual saw. Other option would be a dreemel, a drill, or just my bolt cutter. But that last one is probably a terrible idea.

Will tell later next week how it went - If I still have fingers enough to type, that is.

Nowadays there's a trend to role play around here, so I guessed wrong. My bad!
