I don't understand why you guys don't...

...organize a bit better.

Why do you not create one thread per release?

With the name of the movie as the name of the thread?

That way everyone can see what the thread is about before they even open it.

And they can easily find what they're looking for.

The thread can contain multiple links, reports of dead links (and new links to replace them). And links to versions of different quality.

And the more recent requests, and uploads, will cause those threads to rise naturally to the top of the board, making it easier for you all to keep up to date and avoid missing anything.

I understand that it is easier to just dump a whole load of stuff into one post in a thread titled "yo!" but, seriously, you would get better responses when people didn't have to go diving into threads to find out wtf you wanted, and wade through the entire thread to find out which of a long list of wants have been satisfied and which are still pending.

And beyond your immediately personal desires it would be better for the community as a whole, over the long haul.

Remember that the healthier the community the more you will be able to gain from your membership of it.

This is still a small community--it would be quite easy for some of the big guys here--you know who you are--to take the lead in setting an example with your posts (and in encouraging newbies to fall in line with practices which benefit you all).

Just saying...

I don't understand what you are saying. We should create over 500 different threads, one for each RiffTrax title? Then, when someone creates 10 new syncs, as Riffling just posted, we'd have to check ten different threads rather than just one? And, of course, Riffling (or whoever) would have to call up ten different threads and make ten different new posts, instead of just one. Seems horrible. New releases always have their own thread, with the title as you say. I don't see the problem.

I agree that there could be improved organization and standardization, the aggregate post I made isn't going to be as useful when someone a year from now is searching for a release but this suggestion would also mean 600 individual threads and growing which I don't think is ideal either. I've thought about a centralized repository of sorts with different qualities available but not sure the best way to go about that from a hosting and distribution perspective and honestly, I also have concerns about making it too easy. I'd like to hear other suggestions or ideas for improvement from the community though.

No. You wouldn't have to check any threads. You would be able to tell from the title alone whether the thread was relevant to your interests.

That's because you are an established and up to date member of the site. As I said, the benefit of putting in a little extra work is that it helps newcomers and people down the road looking for content. And presumably someone who goes to the effort of putting stuff up for others would want to see it benefit as many people as possible (and inspire as many people as possible).

It's really just putting reuploads/old releases onto the same footing as new releases as you say. If it's good for the latter, it's just as good for the former.

Exactly.

It doesn't have to be ideal, it only has to be better than what is happening at the moment, which to a degree buries content.

But I'm curious as to why don't you think 600 specific threads, devoted to named videos (which would naturally appear in upload order; which could be sorted by title order, and could be searched via the search box at the top of every page) would be a good idea? It's not like this is a physical store--we have effectively unlimited space, and nothing is ever more than a few clicks away.

As Tim has already pointed out, it already happens for new releases.

The easier it is to find content, the more people will flock to it. The more people there are in any congregation, the more contributors there will be. The more contributors there are, the wider the range of content there will be available. And the more sources of said content there will be if it is taken down. It's a virtuous circle.

The alternative is cloistering yourselves away somewhere, which is what effectively happened with the closed forum you had on Kat. Keeping your eggs in one basket makes you vulnerable. Keeping your eggs in a small, secret basket, even more so.
