Questions - About Akamai, VLC, MPC HC playing issues
#1
I got a few questions, I hope this is the place to ask it, I looked around and wasn't sure so..

QUESTION 1:
So I use Media Player Classic Home Cinema for most of my video playing needs.

It works great and all but I notice that in some MKV files, it would play pretty weird. It plays the video but in fast forward AND it has no sound.

95%+ videos that I watch, I don't have a problem. Have played tons of 720P-1080P videos.

I have Haali Media Splitter and ffdshow to help switch around audio and subtitle tracks.

Just recently had that issue with Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn 720P from THORA. I've had it before but pretty rare.

I tried switching to VLC and it didn't work at first until I upgraded it to the latest version. Now it seems to work fine but I still rather use MPC HC. I'm thinking of upgrading MPC HC to the latest 64 bit version but I don't want more headaches. Just afraid of encountering other problems that might be trickier to address.

So what are your thoughts and advice? I tried searching but there's some confusing info so I was wondering if anyone here had personal issues with this and your solution.

QUESTION 2:
Oh, on the side question, I'm also trying to find a way to pause and play my video in VLC latest version. Will look around.

QUESTION 3

I'm not too familiar with it but I recently delete it because it would minimize my full screen. So whenever I'm chilling back watching my show, it would sometimes minimize. It does this in two successions too. Like once...and then 1 minute later, one more. Does this often enough, not super often, but enough to annoy me. I don't know how to make it so that it runs at certain times of the day when I'm not using the computer or something. It just runs whenever it wants to.

I heard that it has some uses for P2P communications.

Anyone familiar with this and do you think it effects torrenting in any way? (I ask this because I think my download speed might have slowed down, but it might just be a coincidence). Note the installer_no_upload_silent.exe at the bottom of my media player, that pops up after it minimizes. Did some research and found out it's the akamai stuff.

You should try everything, see what sticks and doesn't stick.

In other words, try upgrading to the 64-bit version. At least if that doesn't work, you can just take it our and put the previous version back.

Please elaborate on the second question. What version is it, the latest stable one, or the latest nightly? I had a problem with one of the latest versions when I play a movie and changed the time index. What I had to end up doing is to change the audio track or the stereo mode options around. Is that your trouble? I remember, before using 2.2.1, the latest stable, I used the nighties. What happened is that the context menu won't show up if I right-clicked on the video. Was that your problem? If so, just use the latest stable, which is 2.2.1 (Terry Pratchett).

Well that's the thing though, my MPC at the moment works fine. It's just those 5% of the videos or less have those issues in which now I can use VLC for. I'd love to try it but I tend to be the unlucky type that gets stuck with a problem that takes hours to resolve. Don't want to update it and then run into something that'll make me regret it.

Sort of want to understand the root of the problem rather than replacing what seems to be working pretty well.

VLC 2.2.1....so yeah, the stable one that you're talking about.
One of the biggest weakness of VLC is the need for a pause and play click on screen. Might seem small but it's a major desire for many people. I was wondering if anyone here knows how to do it. The other extension from a few years back doesn't work.

(ONLY IF YOU'RE INTERESTED IN THE PAUSE AND PLAY BY CLICKING ON SCREEN)
EDIT:
HAAAA! GOT IT!
Took awhile to find and then put it in the right folder. YESSS

https://github.com/nurupo/vlc-pause-clic.../vlc-2.2.x+

Since my VLC is 2.2.1, downloaded the 2.2.x one. Put that in the directory C:\Program Files (x86)\VideoLAN\VLC\plugins

Then you got to get the vlc_interface.h and put it in the C:\Program Files (x86)\VideoLAN\VLC\sdk\include\vlc\plugins
The interface can be found in https://github.com/nurupo/vlc-pause-clic...aa780e4148
Just click download zip bottom on right side.

Then just follow the directions.

Glad you got it working.

Good luck with keeping it that way.

Well, I still haven't found out the reason why MPC doesn't play the video mentioned though.

And I think I ran into another problem that I'm investigating. Seems like video effects don't work with 10 bit high definition videos.....I think...

I suspect it's the video hardware.

MPC isn't my favourite player for Windows; I prefer Windows Media Player for that. VLC is my favourite for Linux Mint.

I'll download the file you linked and see what's wrong.

EDIT: OK, which file did you had those problems with? It's probably faster this way.

For the rare video file MPC-HC version 1.7.3 will not play correctly for me I go into:

-Options
-Output
-DirectShow Video

and choose a different video mixing renderer. The one I leave it on by default is Video Mixing Renderer 9 (renderless).
So I choose a 9 or 7 windowed or renderless, ie. just try different ones and the video always ends up playing fine.

On second thought, it's much faster if you follow NrKnrK. Smile

Right in the nick of time!

Didn't work. I have 1.5.3.xxxx

Also, for VLC, I can't seem to change the Effects and Filter options like changing the brightness etc. It seems to not work on 10 bit HD videos.

EDIT
Well, eventually I went to the VLC forum to answer that question.

"Yes, all our effects don't work yet in 10bits."

Wish they would have put it in the player in plain sight that it doesn't. Was fiddling with it for an hour or two because I thought it was me........
