Perhaps people who obtain content from such sites could post the links back here? [As long as the links themselves aren't dodgy]

It's only a useful rallying point if it's widely known and well regarded, which I don't think it is (within the Daz community). Sure, you guys know about it, but I cannot believe that you make up the majority of the world's Daz enthusiasts.

When we made room for you and the RiffTraxers we changed our rules to allow for more wider posting of direct download links, so the torrent hosting issue is de-coupled from the forum usage issue.

You're welcome, and thanks to you as well--you don't post a lot but when you do it's invariably worth reading.

That's one of the things which galls me. We don't play silly games. We treat people as adults. But it seems people prefer manipulative sites which treat them as children (or as cash cows).
Perhaps if we festooned the place with like buttons, and started banning people if they didn't post for a week we would be more popular. [But I would gouge my eyeballs out with a rusty spoon before I allowed that sort of crap here, regardless of how much you all want it.]

katcr.co which is run by the staff of the previous site, along similar lines, has torrents now.

That is nice to hear. Part of the problem (I have) is that I've never seen a thriving Daz community, so it's certainly possible that my expectations are unrealistic...

You don't learn how to work around things. You don't learn how to create your own props and such. You don't have time to actually create art! It's all wrapped up in acquiring that shiny new toy, looking at it in Daz or Poser, MAYBE starting to work with it, and then WOW! There's a whole bunch of new toys out there!!! Gotta get them before they disappear!!
That is a really interesting and provocative point. [Which I'm going to take the liberty of splitting off to a new thread...perhaps spur some discussion

(Mar 19, 2017, 16:38 pm)wolfenspiel Wrote: [ -> ]I'd like to ask you, what exactly would you like to see happening in order to keep it running?
And that is brilliant question.
In truth, probably nothing. Although I don't think the community is doing great, and I do think the nay-saying is doing some harm, I don't think it's making a huge difference. Nor is it particularly unique to this section of the forum. So there is little chance I'll actually close it.
But I guess what spurred me to create this thread was reading one too many posts telling people the grass is greener elsewhere. So perhaps if there is nothing that can be done to get people posting more, those of you who see this forum as merely a place to advertise the "really good" sites might think about posting a little less.

Your name isn't Jon Snow is it? You certainly know nothing. And I hope the rest of you don't think posting links is not allowed? That is not true and it never has been. You have never been prevented from "blog style" posting of releases and in fact that is the norm here, which
you all chose not to adopt.
EDIT: actually, you, personally, have definitely known that posting links is allowed since
Aug 8 last year when you specifically thanked me for that information

As I've explained, torrents are irrelevant to the issue of forum usage (which is all we are discussing here).
And as Moe explained, they're safe anyway. What he didn't mention was that not only do ISP's not care, nobody else does either. I recall asking in the early days of you all arriving for any first hand experience or reliable news reports of anyone ever being busted for Daz torrent downloading. Movies/TV Shows? Sure. Porn? Definitiely. But Apps/Games only very very rarely. And Daz content in particular? It just doesn't happen. There is no risk of being caught when torrenting Daz content.
The ads can be dispensed with with an Ad Blocker (which everyone should be using as a matter of course anyway).
(Mar 20, 2017, 08:00 am)bootleg Wrote: [ -> ]mega seems to provide an extra layer of protection
It might seem to, but it doesn't. Not only will your files be deleted sooner or later (unless you pay), the files of everyone else aren't moderated. If something is still on a moderated site like TPB (or Kat) after more than a couple of days, it's almost certainly legit. You cannot say that about DDL sites, where fakes/infected content cannot even be reported, let alone removed.
But in any case, since you are and always have been perfectly welcome to post mega links here (take a look a the RiffTrax forum, it's full of them), it's irrelevant. If that's what you want to do, lay on.
