Sorry for being almost silent. I visit the forum regularly but I contribute little as the real fight is "elsewhere" with a growing number of direct download DZ-Poser sites of dubious intention and reputation. The fact is people are in search of "stuff" more than speech, so they go where said stuff is available... for now. I consider this forum to be extremely useful and a way to rally in case of a major disturbance of the present situation. I also repeat that TPB being banned from various countries it is a factor lessening the prospect of  daz-poser torrent uploads when there are other easier (but not safer or satisfactory) means.
Just my few cents.
Again, thank you all for the efforts in keeping this community alive against all odds.

I actually haven't been "hanging" anywhere lately, although I visit the Zone daily simply to get my points up, and to see what there is I may want eventually. Sadly, just tried to go there, and am getting a "This Account Has Been Suspended" page for it, so...maybe it's gone? Or being worked on? Or bill wasn't paid? Anyhow, there's always going to be torrents, and there's "most likely" going to be some form of DDL sites, and there's always going to be those that are "dubious in nature". Never keep all your eggs in one basket is my motto, especially after the loss of KAT. As for a KAT resurrection, other than the initial one they put up for communities/chatting, I've heard nothing about a new KAT for torrents... IS there one now?

As to this place, look: it IS damn good, at least I think so. A damn lot better than quite a few, and definitely better than having nothing! My lack of presence has been due mainly to actually spending more time trying to learn some things, and downloading videos for my family and I to watch....AND people were just not participating in much like they used to. I have even more bandwidth now, but I've seen more hit & run's than anything else, and I don't have the hard drive space to seed an upload forever, nor the cash for a seedbox, and it would be senseless for me to post what I have, which includes a lot of older stuff, only to have those torrents die when I remove those products so that I can upload other ones.

Now, I am WORKING on improving my storage space, but I just haven't had the time, nor the energy, and my personal health is not all that great. If I see activity, and decent seeding, yeah...I'll be participating again... I just don't have the energy for bickering and bullshit, complaining because after over a year now, people still don't understand that TPB is not, nor ever WILL be, KAT (and that IS a good thing. Different, yes...but still GOOD!) and all the other hooplah. I don't have the time to spend in a more authoritative position and this group has always had a tight few who I feel do a way better job than I ever could and I prefer to leave it to them, because one thing I have learned is that the more uploading and downloading you do, the more you collect, the larger your inventory of product, well.... your own creativity drops off! You don't learn how to work around things. You don't learn how to create your own props and such. You don't have time to actually create art! It's all wrapped up in acquiring that shiny new toy, looking at it in Daz or Poser, MAYBE starting to work with it, and then WOW! There's a whole bunch of new toys out there!!! Gotta get them before they disappear!!

Now, SID, I agree with you on your store/doorway analogy...and me not being here much, I can neither complain nor give much in the way of any argument. You were a BIG help in at least giving us a place where we can do what we do, whether or not anyone else thinks it's perfect. It IS a bit of a slap in the face, or looking a gift-horse in the mouth, as it were, and I truly don't blame you or others should this forum happen to disappear. HOWEVER:
I'd like to ask you, what exactly would you like to see happening in order to keep it running?
Yes, there ARE a couple other sites, and yes Zone appears to be more popular at the moment...BUT, as I stated earlier, it may now be down, or the bill hasn't been paid, or any other number of reasons to get an "account suspended" page...and people here may still need a place to go, to meet up, to get information (just like I came here to learn what the hell happened to KAT,lol!) Everything serves a purpose, and if you're sharing files in any way, shape, or form...to say that one method is "dead" simply because you found a goldmine that may just have been tapped out today, is crazy. ALWAYS have: a place to meet, more than one source, and more than one way to distribute. ALWAYS! HAVE! CONTINGENCIES!!! The ones that don't, are usually the ones that get shut down permanently, or that fall off on the wayside.

This forum is pretty much the first contingency after KAT for many of us, because when it comes to DDL sites, we all either belong to or visit different ones, for various reasons, some of us don't do DDL at all, etc., and this forum at the time was the fastest, BEST way to round everyone up, and to attempt at least to save what was able to be saved, recreate what was lost or unable to be saved, and to continue on from there. DDL sites WILL disappear from time to time, filehosts are unreliable as all hell, and links do die. SO, if there is a way we can keep this forum, unless everyone just doesn't care any more at all, I would like to know what we need to do, and I'd at least suggest that we start doing it.

I don't understand why you guys prefer sites which are, to paraphrase your own words, unstable, egomaniacal, unreliable, cluttered, vulnerable to legal pressure, and money grubbing.

Why don't you post here? SuprBay is stable, sensible, reliable, clean, as close to invulnerable as you will get, and wouldn't take your money even if you offered it.

I'm not being peevish. I'm genuinely interested. We set this place up for you. If it's not meeting your requirements, clarify what they are and we might be able to address them.
Well if you can have a blog style setup where people post mega.nz links, it would be great. even this forum post would work, but we know that posting links is not allowed.

I dont like using TPB for torrents because 1) its has alot of bots, 2) annoying ads 3) dont feel like torrenting is safe with ISPs going after users.

kat felt safe and was the complete package without annoying bots and ads.

mega seems to provide an extra layer of protection

What ever gave you the idea you can't post links?

And why would and ISP go after users of torrents from TPB if they didn't go after users from KAT?
Of course, that is a false statement in any case, because ISPs do not go after anyone.

Perhaps people who obtain content from such sites could post the links back here? [As long as the links themselves aren't dodgy]

It's only a useful rallying point if it's widely known and well regarded, which I don't think it is (within the Daz community). Sure, you guys know about it, but I cannot believe that you make up the majority of the world's Daz enthusiasts.

When we made room for you and the RiffTraxers we changed our rules to allow for more wider posting of direct download links, so the torrent hosting issue is de-coupled from the forum usage issue.

You're welcome, and thanks to you as well--you don't post a lot but when you do it's invariably worth reading.

That's one of the things which galls me. We don't play silly games. We treat people as adults. But it seems people prefer manipulative sites which treat them as children (or as cash cows).

Perhaps if we festooned the place with like buttons, and started banning people if they didn't post for a week we would be more popular. [But I would gouge my eyeballs out with a rusty spoon before I allowed that sort of crap here, regardless of how much you all want it.]

(Mar 19, 2017, 16:38 pm)wolfenspiel Wrote: I've heard nothing about a new KAT for torrents... IS there one now?
katcr.co which is run by the staff of the previous site, along similar lines, has torrents now.

That is nice to hear. Part of the problem (I have) is that I've never seen a thriving Daz community, so it's certainly possible that my expectations are unrealistic...

That is a really interesting and provocative point. [Which I'm going to take the liberty of splitting off to a new thread...perhaps spur some discussion Tongue ]

(Mar 19, 2017, 16:38 pm)wolfenspiel Wrote: I'd like to ask you, what exactly would you like to see happening in order to keep it running?

And that is brilliant question.

In truth, probably nothing. Although I don't think the community is doing great, and I do think the nay-saying is doing some harm, I don't think it's making a huge difference. Nor is it particularly unique to this section of the forum. So there is little chance I'll actually close it.

But I guess what spurred me to create this thread was reading one too many posts telling people the grass is greener elsewhere. So perhaps if there is nothing that can be done to get people posting more, those of you who see this forum as merely a place to advertise the "really good" sites might think about posting a little less.

Your name isn't Jon Snow is it? You certainly know nothing. And I hope the rest of you don't think posting links is not allowed? That is not true and it never has been. You have never been prevented from "blog style" posting of releases and in fact that is the norm here, which you all chose not to adopt.

EDIT: actually, you, personally, have definitely known that posting links is allowed since Aug 8 last year when you specifically thanked me for that information

As I've explained, torrents are irrelevant to the issue of forum usage (which is all we are discussing here).

And as Moe explained, they're safe anyway. What he didn't mention was that not only do ISP's not care, nobody else does either. I recall asking in the early days of you all arriving for any first hand experience or reliable news reports of anyone ever being busted for Daz torrent downloading. Movies/TV Shows? Sure. Porn? Definitiely. But Apps/Games only very very rarely. And Daz content in particular? It just doesn't happen. There is no risk of being caught when torrenting Daz content.

The ads can be dispensed with with an Ad Blocker (which everyone should be using as a matter of course anyway).

(Mar 20, 2017, 08:00 am)bootleg Wrote: mega seems to provide an extra layer of protection

It might seem to, but it doesn't. Not only will your files be deleted sooner or later (unless you pay), the files of everyone else aren't moderated. If something is still on a moderated site like TPB (or Kat) after more than a couple of days, it's almost certainly legit. You cannot say that about DDL sites, where fakes/infected content cannot even be reported, let alone removed.

But in any case, since you are and always have been perfectly welcome to post mega links here (take a look a the RiffTrax forum, it's full of them), it's irrelevant. If that's what you want to do, lay on.

A lot of the fear comes from those terrifying ads that popup on torrent sites - example from TPB:-

Fair point.

But regardless of who is doing the scaremongering, it is still just scaremongering.

And unlike people profiting from convincing you to part with your cash, we don't have anything to gain by convincing you of anything.

Fair enough but it still perpetuates the myth.

BTW the links that the forum sends out when there is a new reply to the forum don't work:-

http://www.suprbayoubiexnmp.onion/Thread...on=newpost
gives a

"Firefox can’t find the server at www.suprbayoubiexnmp.onion."

Links as file sharing links (or "direct links") of said content. It was something along the lines of "the forum doesnt allow that because then it doesnt have the legal obligation to remove that content since its not directly involved in promoting it"

Idk maybe I understood it wrong... Huh

We never had a policy like that. There was an earlier period where we required people who were promoting their own shares to upload it to TPB, but that policy was ended. Outside links were always allowed as a response to a request.

Policy now is anything goes.
