upgrading/rebuilding my "gaming rig", looking for input
#1
Hey guys,
I am going to be upgrading my desktop with some parts this christmas as my current setup is less than adequate for most modern games.  I have some parts ready to order, already in the cart.  I will be reusing some parts from my current build, but only the better ones.
Here's what I'm reusing:
-AMD FX-6300 six core cpu
-2x 4gb DDR3 modules
-320gb SATA HDD (Windows, some games and programs)
-1TB SATA WD blue HDD (Games, movies, etc.)
-LG Dual layer DVD rewriter (I still like burning DVD's!)
-ATX gaming case from like, 2003
-Multi card reader

Parts I have that I will not be using anymore:

-Nvidia GeForce GT 610 2gb gfx card (can barely run FC3 at medium w/ nodvd)
-500w EVGA PSU
-AS(s)rock cheapie mobo that doesn't support 125w CPU's and max 16gb ram (I bought it mainly for legacy reasons, i.e. serial port and ide floppy)

New Parts I'm getting:
-EVGA GeForce GT 740 4gb GFX card
-MSI 970A-G43 AM3+ mobo
-Sentey 725w ATX psu
-1x 8gb stick of DDR3 (so I can have 16gb total)

And I think thats all but I don't have my mom's amazon account logged in on my PC at the moment.  I will check later and update as/if needed.  Any advice and input is appreciated, I think what I have here is a good setup, seeing as I can only spend $300 or less.  I did sink over $350 when I built this PC last time (I also reused parts on that build, IK I'm a cheap-ass.)  Thanks in advance!

Look at what you want the rig to do. Over-engineering is a good thing with gaming rigs. When your happy with what you want.
Build it around the processor.

I ended up ordering the parts. I hope I can play GTA V on this new setup, which judging by the system req. I definitely should. I just have to download it now, which I will have to go elsewhere to do. Our internet access out in the boonies is pretty limited. It's either satellite, dial-up or 3g. Anyway, are BD drives worth buying? I still prefer optical media for storing games, music, movies, etc. I currently have an old (but great) LG DVD drive in my PC. It's from 2008 but hey, it works great and it burns most .iso's pretty damn quick. Thanks guys!

I am sure you can play GTA V and any other game you want Wink
If you use your PC only for games, I don't think it worth buying one ....
