[split] The Tracker Invitations Thread
#11
How did you prove, definitively, to the owners of the site that you're not currently working for the MAFIAA?
I'm a part of all three trackers and have had an account with the trackers for about three years. My post was just stating that sharing invites on invitation sites might result in a ban. I don't enforce these rules at all and they're made to protect users that have an account there from what I've heard.

How did you prove, definitively, to those owners that you will not at any point in the future work for the MAFIAA?

I'm someone that does computer support which is repairing computers as well as helping out with any computer related questions people might have. I have absolutely no interest in working for such a crummy organization such as the MAFIAA. Furthermore even if I wanted to I'd require a lot more than someone with a computer support degree to work for the MAFIAA. I'm really sorry if my post came off as rude and I've been a huge fan of this site for years.

Also not really not sure why someone from the MAFIAA would donate to this site Sad

What you have heard is wrong.

The fact that you claim to not work for the MAFIAA but cannot prove that to anyone here (any more than I could) proves that such rules could not possibly provide such protection.

Q.E.D.

The claim IS made on private tracker sites but it IS bullshit; and obvious bullshit at that.

Even if it were true that would be between those sites and their members. It would not justify you telling our members what they can / cannot ask for. That is why your post did not belong in the request thread.

Okay I'm sorry if I've upset you. It was my intention at all Sad

You haven't upset me, I don't think you have upset anyone, you have simply posted something incorrect which has been corrected. Education is a big part of the reason this forum exists.

As I said, it is a not uncommon misconception/misrepresentation, so you won't be the only one who has learned something from this thread.

Thanks  Smile Again I've been a huge fan of this site for years

One annoying characteristic that copyright organizations and some private torrent sites have in common is that they are control freaks who try to convince their members that they have their best interests in mind.

I apologize for going a little off-topic here but I would challenge this assertion.  Book publishers can also be extremely aggressive.  I'm not even talking about textbook publishers, with which I have no experience, but the large trade houses.  In the month of May 2016 alone (so far), I've had 100 books in six collections deleted by a certain large torrent site in response to DMCA takedown demands.

I know those are paltry numbers compared to the latest Hollywood blockbusters, but they still feel pretty significant to me.  Haven't you had similar experiences with your music torrents, connor?  Or have I misunderstood you?

I (and OP) was refering to filesharing users receiving an extortion mail from a copyright troll.
Sites deleting torrents because of dmca is a different thing altogether.
KAT is in a deleting spree at the moment, and it's begining to look like a bad joke.

To be fair, it's not all black and white.

Ratio tracking sites were originally created to address an anomaly in the bittorrent protocol: the flipside of the tit-for-tat algorithm, which rewards you for uploading while you are downloading, punishes you for seeding. That is part of the reason torrents die. Ratio trackers reward seeding and consequently torrents on such sites, even when the content is obscure, remain viable for much longer.

The sites themselves are generally smaller, and membership caps help them keep a lid on hosting and bandwidth costs, and help the admins feel more secure (we're a small site, so the MAFIAA aren't going to target us). That is perfectly legitimate; but one of the consequences is that the talent pools they have available for staff recruitment are also small.

Most of the people on private sites genuinely do believe that they are safer. They're wrong but they are sincere.

The real problem is the correlation download/upload speed, that in most cases is asymmetrical by an order of magnitud. If bandwidth were symmetrical it wouldn't be a problem in filesharing.
What really punishes seedeing is ... reward seeding, because it makes seeding a competition in what all that matters is the ratio. Private sites system is broken by design, because it punishes what they try to encourage, leading people to pay for seedboxes they don't need, or directly paying "donations".
So the real question is: can not they see that the system is broken?
Of course they can. So the system is not what's broken, because the system is not design to "encourage seeding", but to keep people bandwith inside walled gardens 'Because I'm worth it'.

Most people download more than they upload. Therefore, consumer internet connections are packaged to provide higher download speeds at the expense of lower upload speed. That is a sensible decision on the part of the ISP's and it benefits most people. You may wail that it should be different because your (our) niche requirements are different but it is what it is for sound reasons and it won't be changing for several years at least.

Rewarding seeding punishes seeding? Rolleyes
