/new suggestion split to new thread for ease of reference later

Maybe. Lets see how it goes and we can revisit the question in a few weeks. [Bump this thread in October if you still think it's necessary.]

The problem with things like that is that the only person who can legitimately set such a flag is the requestor, and they often don't.

So to make such a system work you have to also have a reporting mechanism so that uploaders can request the setting of the flag after a certain amount of time. And uploaders having the patience to wait at least a few days to give the downloader time to check back and download and set the flag, and the inclination to check back after a few days and report; and then moderators have to get involved to determine whether the request is actually filled and to do the actual setting.

My preference is always for organic, mod-less operation. I think the fact that solved posts will naturally sink out of sight (and that even hard-core request fillers will be unlikely to go back more than a page or two looking for requests to fill (which could be up to 100 requests if they've upped their threads-per-page setting) so I don't think it will prove a significant problem.

Remember also that some people will edit their posts to add [solved] to the title anyway, and any posts with 0 replies will obviously be unsolved.

i.e. we'll see how "simple" goes first, then add sophistication/complications if (and only if) necessary.

Also: you can tell from whether the thread title appears in bold or not whether anything has been added to a thread since you last opened it. So you needn't open threads just to see if anything has changed.

well i was more thinking for the uploaders and downloaders, let's say that one had a request weeks ago, one uploader fulfilled it, after many many upload posts some one else sees the request but no solved tag, and hast read the full pages of the upload thread. well you can ques? double uploads..

But that doesn't apply to a sub-forum.

Sure, when you're talking about a single thread, where requests and uploads may be separated by many irrelevant posts (and even pages).

But where there is one request per thread, and only a handful of directly related replies, it's easy to see even many months later that one of those few replies is an upload.

[Not to mention that double uploads aren't a bad thing. Particularly if they're to [non-TPB] torrent sites or direct downloads sites which are vulnerable to takedown requets.]

See my thoughts on duplicates, in your other thread. Wink Thanks, Sid!
