playing pirated movies on Apple TV
#1
hey folks,

Just bought a Apple TV 4K so I can screen-mirror my pirated movies from my Mac to the set.  Video works ok but there is no audio - altho audio works just fine for all my non-pirated content (home movies, tunes).  And now I learn Apple support says their box will not play pirated material.

Anyone else ever had this problem?  Are there any work-arounds or fixes, or should i get my money back on the box?

Simplest workaround is to use analog audio connectors or plug the audio output to a different receiver.

Simplest workaround is to never buy an apple product.

Yeah, but other brands like Samsuck are following. So soon we'll be back to vynils and cassettes on RCA-coax.

Linux desktop, VLC, hdmi cable, TV. Problem solved.

ps: off topic, vinyl is higher quality than digital. Smile

Why is it so difficult to answer a simple question without all the bullshit and off-topic opinionating? Unless you're familiar with details of the product, politux, you shouldn't even be here.

i bought the Apple TV because I wanted to send movies wirelessly to the set. I didn't want the hassle and clutter of a long hdmi cable, but if that is the only solution, I may have no choice.

Sorry for the annoyance. Don't worry running HDMI cables around, probably it won't work. It's HDCP, present on most modern TVs.

My old Samsung TV won't always play torrent movies' sound when connected to my Samsung 2012 notebook over a cheap HDMI 1.3 cable.
I get sound out of a digital output to an older receiver, but even that may've been worked out by Apple. Can't tell, you'll have to try.

And you want 4K, HDMI 2 - Even worse scenario.

To make it short, AFAIK artifacts on video are easily removed (or lost in the reencoding), but audio is different. Maybe another brand of WiFi TV box, don't know.

There are other ways to stream content to a TV. If you're a pirate you shouldn't be buying apple products and then be surprised when they don't support pirated content. It's common sense. Apple wants you to pay for content so they get their 30% cut.

Indeed, don't listen to the trolls. We let them believe they are smart.

Apple support isn't going to help anyone who admits they are trying to play back pirated materials.

If the audio doesn't work, it is because whatever is doing the decoding doesn't support the selected audio track. It isn't a problem unique to Apple. Some solutions (like VLC) are more capable than others.

Make sure your Apple TV audio settings match your setup.

Make sure the video you download has at least one audio track that Apple TV can play back, and that it is the selected track:

There are other apps you can load on to the Apple TV that can play back downloads, but they aren't going to be as easy to use as the native Apple solutions.

thanks Moe. The solution seems to be to download free apps such as VLC or Plex on to the Apple TV. It makes things a little more convoluted but it works.
