no data received from tracker
#1
Ever since the site went "offline" (couldn't upload due to tpb being "full"), many of my torrents that I seed now say "no data received from tracker", which has effectively killed many of my seeding torrents. Looking at my tpb page, I have many torrents showing 0 seeds, even though my client is seeding them.

So something obviously happened with the tracker. Can it get fixed? Something on my end? Any ideas and/or suggestions?

Using Vuze 5.2, ports open, NAT/firewall test is good.

thanks.

you used some old announce urls that now doesn't work anymore download one of your torrens and open it with http://torrenteditor.com/

Code:
udp://tracker.openbittorrent.com:80/announce

udp://10.rarbg.com/announce

udp://tracker.istole.it:80/announce

udp://ipv4.tracker.harry.lu:80/announce

udp://11.rarbg.com:80/announce

http://tracker.ex.ua:80/announce

udp://tracker.publicbt.com:80/announce

udp://9.rarbg.com:2710/announce

udp://tracker.zond.org:80/announce

udp://tracker.token.ro:80/announce

udp://bt.rghost.net:80/announce

udp://tracker.publichd.eu/announce

udp://open.demonii.com:1337/announce

udp://tracker.coppersurfer.tk:6969/announce

udp://pow7.com:80/announce

you can use these from now since they are pretty old and still alive/trusted connections

Thanks for the reply. I took one of my "dead" torrents and tried using torrent editor on it. Funny thing is - I already have many trackers that you suggested within it and they showing offline.

Here's the main problem. From the screenshot

udp://tracker.openbittorrent.com:80
connect: no reply

This is the issue and I have hundreds of my seeding torrents not working now because openbittorrent.com:80 is offline.

yes tpb scrapes openbittorrent, publicbt and few others sometimes they don't work but for few seconds/minutes try adding more that your usual announce urls and tpb will may scrape them even they automatically add 2-3 dead announce urls

I already use these 3, in this order.

udp://tracker.openbittorrent.com:80
udp://tracker.publicbt.com:80
udp://tracker.istole.it:6969

Either its crazy pure coincidence that all 3 went offline at the same time or TPB is having issues scraping trackers. I'll go with the latter.

And no, I'll throw in the towel before I add yet more trackers to hundreds of my seeding torrents. Way too time consuming for something that should be working. Like I said, everything worked great until the downtime last week. And this didn't just happen in the last few hours, I've been patiently waiting for it to sort itself since the downtime but decided to finally post this thread because it looks like it isn't going to sort itself.

Thanks though for the suggestions Smile

It doesn't matter what or how many trackers you have with your torrent.

Modern clients don't need traditional trackers to find peers. To say your torrents are not working because a tracker is offline is just not true. You may be unable to join the swarm, but that will be for other reasons.

Unless every existing and future peer also modifies their announce lists to reflect your changes, you will be the only peer announcing to those trackers.

Seeing as how you use Vuze, be sure you are also using the mlDHT plugin. This will give you access to the DHT network used by every other client. Perhaps then you will find your torrents are doing just fine.

Edit - just realized I forgot a key "not"

Just read a thread on the KAT forum where many people are reporting the same thing--inability to reach multiple trackers. One commenter there reports that there is a wave of DDoS attacks against the main public trackers going on right now. I've no idea of their credentials, but given the evidence that we can see it sounds very plausible.

ie. there is nothing to worry about and nothing you can do anyway, just wait a few days and it will pass.

[But, it does highlight once again the vulnerability and obsolescence of trackers. I've used nothing but DHT for over a year and if it hadn't been for this thread I wouldn't have even known there was supposed to be a problem. Do yourselves a favour and ditch all your trackers--no more worries.]

Thanks for the heads up NIK. After over 1000 personally uploaded torrents and 10+ years of torrenting, I'm 99.9% sure it's not on my end. I'll have to dig for that thread as it's the best explanation I've heard so far.

Regardless, many of my torrents are in fact using old & dead trackers (the glory of uploading FLACs for 6+ years and trying to maintain their health) so as a test I deleted these trackers out of 5 of my torrents 24 hours ago within the client to see if that helps. It seems it has as these particialr torrents are showing 1 seed now over at TPB in my account. I'm going to try for a couple dozen more.

In the end, My only real concern is that I want all my torrents to show at least 1 seed (using TPB website tracker stats), which means it's still alive (even if barely). A lot of times I'm that only seed, but that's ok, at least in searches and scrapes the torrent is still alive and the community can access it. Everything was working great, had only 2 or 3 older torrents showing 0 seeds, didn't really have any problems until last week, right after the downtime, now all of a sudden I have dozens of 0 seeds. That's what's so mind boggling - it led me to believe it was openbittorrent tracker. But perhaps there's more to the story, I really don't know. But something wasn't (and isn`t) right but I'm no uber expert so can't put my finger on it. I can see your point on ditching trackers altogether and have 1 foot in the DHT door.

Hopefully it all sorts itself.

Here's the thread:

Whoa, back up a step, my advice was for your personal information ie. it will help with the display of stats in your torrent client.

There is NOTHING you can do to influence the stats displayed on TPB. They will show what they show regardless of whether you're seeding or not. Regardless of whether you're announcing or not. And they are never reliable to the degree of accuracy you're seeking (the individual seeder level): not only does the bittorrent protocol not even attempt to provide that sort of reliability but the trackers in question all deliberately misreport swarms.

TPB doesn't look at DHT, and it only looks at the trackers it looks at. Adding trackers to your torrents (either in your client or in torrents you reupload) won't achieve anything because TPB won't even look at them.

i don't really have any credentials to speak of, but i do know of a few major trackers that have been being hit with ddos' for about the past month now.

NIK edited Feb 26, 2014 04:23 am this post because:

Not doubting you--as I said myself I think it's eminently plausible--but do you have a referenceable authoritative source? I don't.
