filters for fake torrents
#1
Most (or all) of the fake torrents that are poured into thepiratebay.org, such as in the Games category, are all around 20mb or so. Why not give the option of filtering torrents by a specified size, such as anything over 1GB etc?

Or exclusion options, such as anything not by one of the trolls that have uploaded hundreds of fake torrents all by the same name or a couple of different ones. Being able to either filter above a certain amount or exclude specific uploaders would be extremely useful

Fakers will just increase the size and upload as anonymous / different user name.
So the filter won't do.

With the rate that they are uploading torrents it's obvious that they are using some software to automate the process.
No problem for them to upload each fake from different account.

Additional captcha system could decrease the rate / break the functionality of their software for some time.

There is nothing to do with extra captcha because they can do something for fake torrent uploads. Previously, the number of captcha came to an end, they were given extra captcha, now they upload more fake torrents. Smile

Is it not possible to find ways to prevent it? Huh Confused

It'd be a cat and mouse game for TPB. Anyway, you should only download executables from trusted uploaders (y'know, the skull symbols) if you want to stay safe.
Sounds funny, considering I'm quite a new member and uploaded a crack for a data recovery software, but at least without malware

Alternatively, you could join a private tracker for that game cracks, which are very restrictive about fake uploads, but I have no idea how hard it'd be to get into one.

And even trusted uploaders are subject to failure, being hacked, betrayed, or just going rogue. It's unprobable but possible.
Removing malware/crapware entirely is impossible. Before a new, unknown exploit being found, who can check for it?

Only ways to do it better than it is today is to use a proprietary encrypted network monitoring and logging everything, with central authority on torrent sites being the only entry-point - Exactly what we should not do.

I realize everything can be eventually bypassed but seeing everyday spam of fakes in the game section ranging to more than 25 pages around midnight I see no problem of just copy/paste google captcha system to the upload page at least for a test.

https://www.google.com/recaptcha/intro/v3beta.html

10 pages of fakes in 1 minute, that's gotta stop.

Just look at it now:

Put every new uploader on quarantine and randomly check every trusted uploader from time to time?
All impossible with current TPB size vs. resources, plus not in line with it's goals.
I guess the staff checks upload patterns for suspect activity, but with many mass uploaders around, it's hard to tell who's who.

Btw, looks like dauphong (green) changed hats? I used to like his stuff, but recently had a couple problems.
So the captcha can slow down the mass attacks, but won't stop them.

I actually registered for the forum specifically to suggest we be able to confine our viewing to trusted uploaders. When it comes to executables, I am very selective about who I'll download from, and while they are not infallible, it reduces the risk considerably.

A "skulls only" filter wouldn't hurt much, maybe. At least for whoever is also a skull themselves? Sadthat would exclude me)
