such a no-brainer, should have been implemented site-wide from day 1. it is a matter of great shame and sorrow that i had to create an account and make this request.

The problem with no-brainer ideas is that generally people with no brains take advantage of them.

We already tried that. It didn't work.

It is indeed a matter of great shame that you were so terribly inconvenienced.

what caused it to not work? isohunt made it doable. forum.tixati.com as well. they put up captchas with complexities and difficulty of high-tier to slow down spammers.

1. It yielded only a relatively small amount of comments (compared to the amount of account-holder comments).

2. The majority of comments it did yield were spam or abuse/harassment.

i.e. It didn't add enough value to be worth retaining.

Besides (or perhaps even because), it's NOT a no-brainer idea. People tend to shy away from downloading torrents from people with no history because it's hard to know whether they are legitimate or not, and people generally pay little-if-any attention to anonymous comments for the same reason.

the same can be said for comments from user accounts as there has been history of many user accounts created solely to disrupt via disinformation.

That is not true, in fact it is completely wrong.

The majority of comments posted via user accounts are "legit", and a minority are disruptive.

The vast majority of comments posted via anonymous accounts are disruptive, and a tiny minority are legit.

The former are worth having, the latter are not.

Thanks for the suggestion, it's not entirely without merit, but there is no chance at all of us proceeding with it.
