I have absolutely no idea why, but the XP11/12 installer never works for me. It appears as a black screen titled "X-System" and closes automatically. I had this issue on XP11's cracked installer, and I had to actually buy the game (via Steam) thanks to the installer being a pile of shit. If anyone knows why, please let me know... (I also tried running the installer as Administrator and compatibility mode, still not working.)
Forgot to include, this problem isn't a side affect of the crack. I also had this while installing the XP12 demo.

I always do this and it works:
install xp12 demo from the official site
copy the default scenery file you downloaded in the xp12 folder
open xp12 with the dvd inserted
and that's all, always works
you can also update xp via the installer, if it aks what scenery is installed, just select none and go on
ps. you have to download the installer (maybe) and the sceneries from other sources, like pirate bay
