Would a dedicated thread for Christmas Torrents (Only) be a Good Idea?
#1
Hi! Guys Actually, I'm planning to post bulk of books related (directly or Indirectly) to Christmas in both ebooks & Audiobooks formats. So, I was skeptical whether to create a dedicated thread in "Books, Comics & Literature" concerning that subject only. Though, I have a thread in "Promote Your Torrents" section. What do you think? First I would like to know "Can I do so (asking to Mods)?" And, Secondly "Should I do so (asking to everyone)? The purpose is to create a dedicated torrent thread for Christmas only. And, needless to say All uploaders would be invited to post in that thread (if they'd be interested, off course).

We provide an entire website (complete with a tagging system) for people to post torrents, and search/browse for torrents.

SuprBay is not intended to compete with that and, when people attempt to use it to do so--with "my torrents" threads--they fail. From an uploaders point of view, torrents are exposed to tens of millions of people on TPB but just tens of hundreds of people here (all of whom see them on TPB anyway). From a downloaders point of view, there are millions of torrents to select from on TPB but only hundreds of torrents here. The PYT forum is really just a polite trash can for the pointless threads that people continue creating. I don't see any real benefit in allowing it to spread.

I'm not entirely ruling it out, because it's something I've actually considered myself in the past and on face value it does indeed have some merit, but I'll take a lot of convincing.

Yes! I consider that point of being searched by millions of people on TPB but what It lacks is actual 'tagging'. People can only find those book where "Christmas" word is tagged not others (but they are related to Christmas anyways). Like I just post a torrent named Nutcracker Nation By Jennifer Fisher , I don't think that particular torrent will come in search results for "Christmas". And, I know SB is nevertheless compared to TPB in terms of visits (traffic I mean) & also it is not intended for that purposes (I know). But I want to create it for the purpose of being "Organised" thread for Christmas torrents on SB. And, as you said:

Quote:when people attempt to use it to do so--with "my torrents" threads--they fail

Well, that's obvious coz, other (users) think it as another SELF promoting thread. I don't say that. I simply encourage SB staff to create such a thread & we'll post the stuff.

And, you say:

Quote:From a downloaders point of view, there are millions of torrents to select from on TPB but only hundreds of torrents here.

Well, I will (if not others) publish the link of SB thread in my torrent descriptions & will let others know about an organized collection of torrents and also encourage them to post in it. May it works.

But if we're going to have a thread on Christmas torrents why wouldn't we have threads on other sets of torrents? Science Fiction torrents, Winter torrents, Wallpaper torrents, Films of Kurosawa torrents, and so on and so on and so on...

The tagging system on TPB is far from perfect, but I still don't see that SB could replace it let alone should replace it.

No, No I don't need that much fuss on SB. And, even I dropped that idea after your first comment but the last 'line' tends me to extend it further. Tongue
