Windows 7 Sharing Problem
#1
Hi,

I am facing sharing problem in Windows 7 computers. It is a PC of one my office friend, just next to me. I know the IP Address, User Name, Password etc. of that computer. I basically want to share the printer of that computer.

I turned on File and Printer Sharing, Network discovery, shared the printer also on that PC. When I try to login into that computer so as to connect the printer, using the username and password, it just don't accepts it. It appears that somehow, that computer is not allowing other computer to login into it.

I am using the following method to connect to that computer:

1. I click on "Start" and type the IP address as \\IPADDRESS and then press enter.

2. A window comes up and asks me for login username and password of that computer.

3. I input the user name and password of that computer (which is correct) but that computer doesn't allows itself to be connected. It just keeps on asking the Password again and again.

I hope the problem is understood. Please help me on the matter.

Have you checked the firewall settings on both computers?

Yes, firewall settings are almost the same.

That particular computer is not accepting any request for making us share its printer. But that computer is able to give commands for printer to other computers. other computers are working just fine.

Hi.. Sorry for the trouble. But it appears it had to do with a simple "User Name" problem.

My friend was logging into the system using his own user name. And I was trying to connect to his computer using the username he was logging with. But it appears, the username was incorrect. It was "DELL" (it's a dell PC) and the factory setting had given him the username DELL which he had changed later on...

So it was an error on my part not to understand that username can also cause troubles...

That could be the case if they had the same username but different password. Atleast with Windows XP, I know that using usernames without password could also cause some problems like this.
