Why rep someone?

Why do we rep people/each other?

I rep people as a way of showing appreciation or like of a recent post so why do you or why don’t you rep other members here on SB?

They entertain me.
They're a family member, like a grandpa,etc.
They're my friend.
or just for the heck of it.

Ya I like to use it to make someones day better, and also strengthen the bond between the poster and me. All good things.

let us not forget the occasional obvious trolls, jerks and otherwise social leeches that deserve negative reps as a general warning to others.

reps are also a great way of knowing which forum members are more useful than others, but since forums also contain drama queens, attention whores and otherwise emotionally unstable elements, they are often nothing more than numbers.... which is why you often see some people begging for them openly in forums while others beg for them privately.
